Course Description

This course introduces you to the principles and practice of developing applications using C# programming language. Topics include the C# programming language, ASP.NET, REST API and security.

What you will learn:

  • Gain a solid architectural understanding of ASP.NET.
  • Explore the entire ASP.NET Framework as a cohesive whole.
  • See how ASP.NET and test-driven development work in action.
  • Learn what's new in ASP.NET and how best to apply these new features to your own work.
  • See how to create RESTful APIs.

Program Learning Outcomes

This course is an option course so it is not required to contribute to the development of program learning outcomes (PLOs) though it may assist your achievement of several PLOs.

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:

  1. Learn to write applications in C#
  2. Use of Git Hub and Trello for software development
  3. Explore the entire ASP.NET Framework as a cohesive whole and see how the framework and test-driven development work in action
  4. See how to create RESTful APIs
  5. Describe and apply software patterns for the development of the application models described above.


Overview of Learning Activities

You will be actively engaged in a range of learning activities such as review of pre-recorded lectures, completion of preparation activities, lectorials, laboratory-based activities, webinars, post-lectorial exercises, assignment, project work, class discussion and self-study. 

You are encouraged to be proactive and self-directed in your learning, asking questions of your lecturer and/or peers and seeking out information as required, especially from the numerous sources available through the RMIT library, and through links and material specific to this course that is available through myRMIT Studies Course.

It is a requirement of this class that you have your own laptop/desktop machine. At the start of the semester/study period/term you will be advised to install free software required to successfully complete the course.

Assessment Task 2: Coding Assignment and Demonstration – Part 2
Weighting: 40%
This assessment task supports CLOs: 2, 3, 4 and 5.

Assessment Task 3: In-Class Final Programming Challenge
Weighting: 40%
This assessment task supports CLOs: 1, 4 and 5.
