This course will be undertaken in conjunction with Conduct Simple Activities in a Biological Laboratory BIOL 5098

Course Description

A curriculum-based course which provides participants with the knowledge and skills to identify cell organelles and structures, state their functions and outline various cellular life-supporting processes.

Class written and identification exercises on:

organisation, movement, feeding, respiration, excretion, reproduction, growth and sensitivity of cells

Practical Work will be held where 

  • plant tissue is prepared for microscope examination and light microscopy skills will be developed
  • Osmosis & Diffusion in cells is demonstrated

A Powerpoint project on cell structure run in conjunction with Operate a Personal Computer the is required to be completed under guidance of IT staff

Audiovisual & Web Animations will be used to demonstrate cell functions
