Course Description
This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required to provide first aid response, life support, management of casualty(s), the incident and other first aiders, until the arrival of medical or other assistance

Teaching Schedule
This unit is scheduled for delivery for both Trainee Groups and Non Trainee Groups as per timetable issued Phase 1 day 1 and is also located on
BlackBoard. The classes will be delivered over the first two Phases of the program and on level 3 or 2 of Building 154 (within the Royal Dental Hospital of
Melbourne). Notification will be provided via student email if there is a date or location change. The following schedule is as per timetable issued on Phase 1

Overview of Assessment
Assessment will include demonstration of underpinning skills and knowledge, assessment activities may include quizzes, practical demonstration and written work.
Assessment Tasks
1. Simulated practical assessment (simulated observation), First Aid skills Assessment and observational checklists for four practical assessments in this unit
including: Assessment A: Manage CPR, AED and documentation. Students are required to perform CPR, in both one operator and two operator
situations and to perform the administration of AED. Assessment B: Manage bleeding, bandaging for simple, complex wounds and fractures. Students are
required to demonstrate a number of bandages designed to assist causalities in various situations. Assessment C: Assist with the used of Bronchodilator
and space device. Students are required to assist with the administration of a Broncholidaotor and the use of a spacer device.
Assessment D: Assist with the use of an Adrenaline Auto Injector for Anaphaylaxis. Students are required to demonstrate the of an Adrenaline Auto
Injector 2. Online Tests (Quizzes 1, 2 & 3). The three online quizzes must be completed before Phase 2, in order to pass in the unit HLTFA311A Apply first
aid.
Failure to complete any of the above listed tasks/assessments will result in an NYC (not yet competent) for unit HLTFA311A Apply first aid. An NYC result will
be entered in the student record. This will result in non-completion of this unit of competence required re-enrolment incurring fees and a return to class work
and completion of any relevant assessments at the time of the re-enrolment.
Assessment Matrix
To achieve a grade of CA (Competency achieved) for the unit HLTFA311A/OHTH5727C Apply First Aid, you are required to obtain a pass result for all the
following theoretical and practical assessments. 1. Simulated practical assessment (simulated observation), First Aid skills Assessment and observational
checklists for four practical assessments in this unit including: Assessment A: Manage CPR, AED and documentation.
Assessment B: Manage bleeding, bandaging for simple, complex wounds and fractures.
Assessment C: Assist with the used of Bronchodilator and space device. Assessment D: Assist with the use of an Adrenaline Auto
Injector for Anaphaylaxis.
2. Online Tests (Quizzes 1, 2 & 3). The three online quizzes comprises of multiple choice questions. Students have three attempts to achieve 100% result.
Failure to complete any of the above listed tasks/assessments will result in a NYC (Not yet competent) for the unit HLTFA311A/OHTH5727C Apply First Aid.
A NYC result will be entered in the student record. This will result in non completion of the unit of competency and reenrolment will be required incurring fees,
and a return to class and completion of any relevant assessments at the time of re-enrolment. (The assessment process must be finalised and a result
entered by the end of the RMIT for the unit HLTFA311A/OHTH5727C Apply First Aid).
