Course Description

In this course you will acquire the skills and knowledge required to work respectfully with people from diverse social and cultural groups and situations, including Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people.

This course applies to all workers working across the Aged Care, Home and community care and Disability sectors.

Overview of Assessment

This course is delivered and assessed with course CHCCOM005 Communicate and work in health or community services, CHCLEG001 Work legally and ethically, and HLTWHS002 Follow safe work practices for direct client care.

There will be three forms of assessment and they will include a research task, questions and answers in relation to the unit of competency and practical assessment either in a simulated or workplace environment.

The assessment tasks are as follows:

Task 1: WHS inspection and hazard identification- Research questions/online quiz

Task 2: Emergency incident role play and report

Task 3: Manual handling

Task 4: Knowledge quiz

Task 5: Greendale Community: Knowledge Quiz

Task 6: Ethics of care: Scenario quiz

Assessment Tasks

Students enrolled in Vocational Education and Training qualifications are assessed for Competency. To be assessed as Competent means you have consistently demonstrated the required knowledge and skills to a standard expected in the workplace. To be assessed as Competent in this course, you will need to complete each assessment task to a satisfactory standard. You will receive feedback from the teacher at the conclusion of each assessment task.
You should refer to the assessment brief which is available through Canvas for a full assessment criterion. Results that apply to courses that are delivered and assessed in accordance with competency-based assessments are:

 Assessment tasks

AT1 - WHS inspection and hazard identification

This task allows students to demonstrate their ability to participate in a workplace inspection, identify hazards, assess risk and make recommendations. Students are able to demonstrate their ability to complete workplace documentation accurately and in line with policies and procedures.

This task requires you to participate in safety inspection, identify a hazard, assess risk and make recommendations for improvement. You will do this by:

  • conducting a WHS workplace inspection
  • completing the hazard reporting and risk assessment analysis
  • answering ten (10) written questions.

AT2 - Emergency incident role-play and report

This task allows the student to demonstrate how to respond to an emergency. This task also allows students to demonstrate their ability to:

  • apply infection control procedures
  • use personal protective equipment
  • accurately record and report incidents

In this task, you are required to demonstrate how you apply emergency response procedures (Greendale Community) and your ability to complete an incident report. You are required to demonstrate the steps outlined below. If for any reason you do not think you will be able to demonstrate a step, speak to your assessor to make alternative arrangements before you start the assessment task.

Your assessor will ask you some questions after the task to confirm your understanding of relevant policies, procedures and requirements.

 

AT3 - Manual handling

During this assessment you will apply manual handling skills and knowledge to safely move an ambulant service user (only able to walk short distances) from one location to another using a wheelchair. This is a practical demonstration task which takes place in a workplace, under supervision. This task allows you to demonstrate how to safely move a service user using a wheelchair.

In this task, you are required to demonstrate your ability to safely move a service user in a wheelchair, applying appropriate manual handling techniques. This is a practical demonstration task which takes place in a workplace, under supervision. You must demonstrate the steps outlined below. If for any reason you do not think you will be able to demonstrate a step, speak to your assessor to make alternative arrangements before you start the assessment task.

Your assessor will ask you some questions during the task to confirm your understanding of relevant policies, procedures and requirements.

AT4 - Knowledge quiz

This knowledge quiz assessment task is one of six assessment tasks you need to complete satisfactorily to be deemed competent for this course.
This assessment task allows you to demonstrate your knowledge of legal and ethical requirements, workplace health and safety, diversity and communication principles.

AT6 Ethics of care: Scenario quiz

This knowledge quiz assessment task is one of two assessment tasks you need to complete satisfactorily, in order to receive the micro-credential badge.

This assessment task allows you to demonstrate your knowledge of ethics of care. Each question group contains a mixture of question types; for example, these can include multiple choice, true/false and matching questions.

You read any scenario/background information sections and then answer the questions provided

 

AT7 - Working with diverse people: Scenario quiz

This knowledge quiz assessment task is one of two assessment tasks you need to complete satisfactorily, in order to receive the micro-credential.

This assessment task will also count towards your assessment for the units of competency. This assessment task allows you to demonstrate your knowledge of ethics of care. Each question group contains a mixture of question types; for example, these can include multiple choice, true/false and matching questions.
