Course Description

In this course you will acquire the skills and knowledge required to develop patterns from a block using basic patternmaking principles. It applies to the development of a variety of pattern styles utilising the basic principles of patternmaking, including dart manipulation and square blocking. All work is conducted according to defined procedures.

2.1 Set up workstation and patternmaking tools and equipment 

2.2 Analyse design to identify appropriate modifications 

2.3 Identify fabric performance characteristics that may affect garment pattern and determine ease allowance 

2.4 Plan pattern development according to quality standards and workplace procedures

Patternmaking: Trace basic skirt block. Keep one master copy. Make waistband pattern, add seam allowance.

Production: Cut and begin sewing basic skirt toile in calico.

Discussion: Patternmaking terminology and definitions.  Questions about AT1.

Activity: Practice role play.
