Course Description
In this course you will learn skills and gain knowledge required to prepare patients for dental radiography. You will also learn how to process and mount conventional dental radiographs.

Performance Criteria: |
1.1. Ensure work surfaces are clean and dry. 1.2. Select and prepare the correct radiographic image receptors, relevant holders and patient record for the radiographic examination and make it available to the practitioner. 1.3. Assist the practitioner in the implementation of safe work practices to minimise radiation risks to workers and to patients during procedure. |

2.1. Wear personal protective equipment. 2.2. Handle image receptors carefully to maintain quality. 2.3. Process image as directed by practitioner. 2.4. Orientate or mount image in correct viewing perspective, identifying landmarks to confirm. 2.5. Ensure image is labelled, dated and attached to the appropriate patient record for storage or filing. 2.6. Check radiograph image meets diagnostic standards and notify operator of any defects. 2.7. Identify improvements in processing or mounting images to ensure quality criteria is met. . |

Overview of Assessment
Assessment for this course is ongoing throughout the semester. Your knowledge and understanding of course content is assessed through participation in class exercises, oral presentations, and through the application of learned skills and insights to your written tasks. Full assessment briefs will be provided and can be found on CANVAS.
Assessment Tasks
Students enrolled in Vocational Education and Training qualifications are assessed for Competency. To be assessed as Competent means you have consistently demonstrated the required knowledge and skills at a standard expected in the workplace.
To be assessed as Competent in this course, you will need to complete each assessment task to a satisfactory standard. You will receive feedback from the teacher after each assessment task.
You should refer to the assessment brief available through Canvas for full assessment criteria and due date.
AT1 Third Party (Dental Practitioner) Report
This assessment task consists of the Dental Practioner's observation in the workplace. The purpose of this task is to provide supporting evidence to the RMIT assessor to check the consistency in student performance and to assist the student in achieving competency in the unit. This is due 2 weeks after Phase 3.
AT2 Knowledge Assessment
This is an open book assessment scheduled to be started in class (Phase 5/Day 5). This assessment will assist you in understanding reprocessing principles and requirements. Feedback will be provided via Grade Centre on Canvas and discussed verbally if required. Due Date - 2 weeks post Phase 5.
AT3 Simulated Practical Assessment (A,B,C)
is a simulated practical assessment is conducted on Day 5/Phase 5 at RMIT Level 3 and involves the demonstration of reprocessing skills within the simulated working environment. Feedback will be provided at the end of the practical assessment.
AT4 Workplace Assessment
is the practical assessment is conducted at your workplace Post-Phase 4 and involves the demonstration of effective reprocessing skills and knowledge. Feedback will be provided on the spot and via Canvas.

Assessment is ongoing throughout the course and will include three practical assessments and one knowledge assessment.
