Course Description
This course covers the skills and knowledge to identify fibres and fabrics commonly used in the construction of garments and accessories.

Details of Learning Activities
 Identify fibres used in the clothing industry. Methods of identifying fibres are established. (problem solving)
 Research, collect and identify fabrics used in the clothing industry and their uses. (planning and organising)
 Identify generic and trade names for fibres and fabrics (problem solving)
 Work in a group to brainstorm and provide feedback on fabric findings. (teamwork and initiative and enterprise)
 Group discussion on fibre, yarn and fabric qualities (physical and visual). (teamwork)
 Observe and investigate fibre and fabric characteristics (bias, handle, stretch fraying etc) and construction processes. (problem solving)

Overview of Assessment
The student will be given a range of assessment tasks including folio work, powerpoint presentation, research and quizzes.
Assessment Tasks
The student will be required to (1) organise a fabrications folio (2) give an oral presentation using PowerPoint on researched fabrics and (3) demonstrate knowledge and understanding by performing written assessments in class.
