Course Description

This course describes performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to perform the activities associated with the administrative aspects of a project, such as measurement, monitoring, reporting and winding up the project on completion.  The course focuses on the administration requirements within any project undertaken under the supervision of an experienced project manager.  The administrative skills are applied within the context of a project environment.

Learning Outcomes

Students will demonstrate all elements of competency through a variety of methods including observation of presentations, the production of charts, use of project planning tools to assist with project monitoring, monitoring of timelines, milestones and budgets.  Students will produce a project which they will administer making necessary administrative arrangements within project plans, evaluation of the project monitoring processes and reports and evaluation of the outcomes of the administrative processes applied within the project(s).

Overview of Assessment

Students must demonstrate an understanding of all elements of a particular competency to be deemed competent.  Assessment methods have been designed to measure achievements of each competency in a flexible manner and incorporate required employability skills.  A range of assessment methods are used to assess practical skills and knowledge and include: class exercises, homework, practical project and tests.  A holistic assessment approach is taken using the Virtual Enterprise.  Students are advised they they are likely to be asked to personally demonstrate their assessment work to their teacher to ensure that the relevant competency standards are being met.

Learning activities include class-based discussions, exercises, small group work, online activities, reading and reflection on various activities, together with independent and group based research in the Virtual Enterprise and in order to develop competency including the underpinning skills and knowledge.

In addition to the assessments, formative and timely feedback is provided to the students thoughout the duration of the course.
