Course Description
In this unit you will develop the required knowledge and skills associated with planning and organising to cut non-printed materials. You will have the opportunity to cut irregular and non-uniform leather materials to specifications and workplace standards using machines, knives and interlocking knives. You will apply discretion, initiative and judgement while working to defined procedures and methods as well as ensure materials conform to requirements and identify any processing problems. You will be required to demonstrate safe use of technology and conformance of own work to quality standards.

Details of Learning Activities
Integrated learning consisting of theory and practical components will be carried out in practical workshops for the skills and knowledge required to Cut non-printed leather by machine while producing shoes.
Teaching Schedule
Practical workshops for Cut non printed leather by machine will be conducted in conjunction with other practical based learning. Workshops will including demonstration of techniques and students will be required to demonstrate their practical skills required to cut non printed leather by machine. Learning will include identifying and using appropriate equipment (including clicking press) , safe set-up of equipment/machinery & working with a range of materials and components used in footwear manufacture. Work on Cutting non printed leather by machine will be carried out during the development of the following pairs of shoes:
Week 1-4 Development of Court Shoe - 1Pair
Week 5-11 Development of Derby Shoe - 1Pair
Week 12-16 Development of Oxford Shoe - 1Pair

Overview of Assessment
Assessment is ongoing throughout the semester and will consist of both theory and practical based exercises, predominantly in class but some out of class research and information formatting is required as well. Feedback will be provided throughout the semester on all assessment tasks.
All assessment tasks must be completed before competency can be achieved. Tasks that have not be authenticated in class as the student’s own work will not be considered for assessment. Regular attendance is encouraged.

Assessment Tasks
Student will submit for assessment a minimum of 2 pairs of shoes. Shoes to be produced are required to be to an industry standard. Included in the production of these shoes, the student will demonstrate how they cut non printed material by machine using safe & efficient methods.
Student will demonstrate and answer relevant questions regarding the knowledge and skills required to cut non printed leather by machine to a competent standard.
Work will be assessed against an assessment template for cut non printed leather by machine.
