Course Description

This unit defines the competency required to technically manage elements of a network including contribution to disaster recovery plan.

The following units are prerequisite for this competency:
• ICAI3101A - Install and manage network protocols
• ICAS3024A - Provide basic system administration

Elements:

1. Provide client access and security 1.1 Provide log-ons, passwords and applications file access to users and prepare documentation in line with organisational requirements 1.2 Evaluate records of user accounts to determine access privileges and usage 1.3 Take necessary action to ensure maintenance of system integrity and security 2. Input into and disseminate disaster recovery plan 2.1 Provide input for the organisation's disaster recovery plan 2.2 Disseminate disaster recovery plan to user as required 3. Learning Outcomes

Overview of Assessment

Critical aspects for assessment and evidence required to demonstrate competency in this unit.
Assessment must confirm competency in sustaining the operation of the network through maintenance of network integrity and the performing of diagnostic tests. Assessment must also confirm competency in contributing to the formulation of a disaster recovery plan and providing the client with an optimised network that complies with organisational guidelines.

Assessment occurs throughout the program and includes learning and assessment activities conducted in the classroom, online and in the workplace giving you the opportunity to practice and be assessed on what you are learning in a work context. You must demonstrate an understanding of all elements of a particular competency to be deemed competent. Assessment methods have been designed to measure achievement of each competency in a flexible manner over a range of assessment tasks.

Assessment will incorporate a variety of methods including technical requirements, documentation, workplace activities, in class exercises, quizzes, practical problem solving exercises and presentations. Participants are advised that they are likely to be asked to personally demonstrate their assessment work to their teacher to ensure that the relevant competency standards are being met.
