Course Description

In this course you will cover the skills and knowledge to be able to work with and solve design challenges in project work by utilising and applying the principles of design and colour theory.

Other Resources

RMIT has a range of equipment available for students to use to complete their assignments including access to RMIT labs with computers, server storage space and required software to complete exercises and assignments. Many students prefer to also have their own personal computer with current Photoshop, InDesign and Adobe editing software as well as personal data storage devices (generally a minimum of two).

RMIT will also provide you with resources and tools for learning in this course through our online system. You are advised to look at the course Blackboard site for ongoing updated information and to make use of RMIT’s library database facilities.

Overview of Assessment

Assessment is ongoing throughout the course and will include both project work and presentation of a personal brand that students will develop for themselves. You will use Adobe InDesign and other complementary applications to present your assessment.

Task: Using the 2 concept directions you developed in BUSM5879C: Interpret and respond to a design brief (part A), take one and using this concept direction, you will produce a publication based on your own Architecture photography and document your design process. Consider the design style including use of colour, hierarchy, typography, image and graphics.

Task: Development a brand identity for your own photography practice – using research of historical and contemporary designers to influence and inform your design process. Consider use of colour, design/graphic style and typography to form your identity.

Your submission will be completed in stages as outlined by the submission items listed above. You are required to develop your branding proposal, delivering key elements and supporting evidence at each stage, along with a draft and final brand proposal document.
