Course Description
This course describes the knowledge and skills required to work in the youth work context. The course focuses on the historical and contemporary youth sector practice and understanding of the current status of young people.

On successful completion of this course you will have developed and applied the skills and knowledge required to demonstrate competency in the above elements.
Overview of Assessment
Each week you should write a paragraph or more (at least 100 words) on the following questions.
Week 1:
Code of ethics – Explore your thoughts one of the principles we discussed today.
Week 2:
Describe the cultures of your youth. How has this shaped you, how have you changed?
Week 3:
Which of the other frameworks or theories resonated with you the most and why?
Week 4:
Which question in todays’ quiz surprised you the most and why?
Week 5:
When you envisage yourself as a youth worker what kind of work do you see yourself doing and why?
Week 6:
What do you see as the key components to engage effectively with young people?
Throughout placement you will need to complete 3 case studies which demonstrate your capacity to engage effectively with young people. Directed questions will be provided during classtime.
1. Talk about a young person’s whose values and culture differed to yours and/or others around the young person.
2. Talk about a young person who you really clicked with.
3. Talk about a young person who was having issues within the service.
