Course Description

In this unit, students will gain the skills and knowledge required to work respectfully with people from diverse social and cultural groups and situations, including Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people.

This unit is delivered and assessed with CHCDIV002 Promote Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander cultural safety.

To demonstrate competency in this course you will need to complete the following assessment tasks to a satisfactory standard. You will receive feedback from the teacher when you have completed the assessment tasks.

You will be given two (2) attempts for each assessment to demonstrate the required skills. A third (3rd) attempt can only be offered after discussions between teacher and the Program Coordinator and is not automatic. Resubmissions beyond two (2) attempts are at the discretion of the teacher and/or coordinator.

Assessment Tasks

Assessment Task 1: This assessment requires you to demonstrate the skills and knowledge required to work respectfully with people from diverse social and cultural groups and situations, including Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people. You will be showing how you can identify Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander cultural safety issues in the workplace and model good cultural safety practices in your own work practices. This will include developing strategies to enhance cultural safety.

Assessment Task 2: This assessment requires you to demonstrate the skills and knowledge required to work respectfully with people from diverse social and cultural groups and situations including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. You will be showing how you can you be effectively work with these diverse groups in Australia. You are required to conduct your own research to respond to the questions in this assessment.

Assessment Task 3: This assessment requires you to demonstrate the skills and knowledge around culture and diversity of Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Completing this task allows you to demonstrate your ability to:identify cultural safety issues in the workplace, model cultural safety, develop strategies to improve cultural safety within an organisation and evaluate cultural safety strategies

Assessment Task 4: This assessment requires you to demonstrate the skills and knowledge to work respectfully with people from diverse
social and cultural groups and situations, including Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people. You will show how you can identify diversity and cultural safety issues in the workplace and model good cultural safety practices. This will include developing strategies to enhance cultural safety.

Students enrolled in Vocational Education and Training qualifications are assessed for Competency. To be assessed as Competent means you have consistently demonstrated the required knowledge and skills to a standard expected in the workplace. To be assessed as Competent in this course, you will need to complete each assessment task to a satisfactory standard. You will receive feedback from the teacher at the conclusion of each assessment task.
