Course Description

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to work respectfully with people from diverse social and cultural groups and situations, including Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people.

This unit applies to all workers.

Details of Learning Activities

Classes where information is shared through talks and discussions, and workshops where exercises are conducted to apply learning. Time is spent during classes and workshops for students to work on group and individual assessment tasks.

Assessment Tasks

Assessment Task 1: 

This is an individual task where students will use a structured process to reflect on perspectives when they have dealt with diversity.

Assessment Task 2: 

 Based on a case study students will be required to plan and prepare for a workplace meeting, facilitate a meeting to discuss a workplace issue and obtaining feedback on skills from the meeting’s participants at the end of the meeting, prepare minutes from the meeting, prepare a brief communications skills evaluation report.

Assessment Task 3:

This is a group task where students will write and conduct a debate on a topic provided by the teacher. They will work in groups of four, three students per group will participate in the debate, the other must provide research and preparation support.
