Teaching Schedule

Each person we support comes to us with individual needs as a result of the disability/ies they have. In this workshop we look at a range of conditions and how those conditions may impact on an individual across life areas. This includes identifying needs, strengths, challenges and solutions.

Over the past thirty years the disability service sector has shifted from a pre- dominantly centre/facility-based focus to community based individual person centred planning. Empowerment, individualized services, community inclusion and participation are linked and considered today.

Services, issues and solutions to support community inclusion and participation will feature in this workshop. Advocacy and self-advocacy are valuable tools in ensuring that the people we support take their place in their communities and society.

Workshop flexibility

  • The workshop themes link units and ideas, strategies and current beliefs, values and philosophies about disability and community sector work.
  • The schedule above is planned to address those themes but we will amend to include materials and options that arise in the disability sector to enrich your learning throughout the program.
  • Guest presenters may be scheduled if they are available and this may mean changes to the topics in workshops.  Students will be informed as these opportunities are finalized.
  • We welcome any suggestions or requests from students that would add to the content or experiences.
