Course Description

This unit of competency applies to determining, planning, implementing and monitoring production work flow within a work team in a TCF sector workplace.

Discretion and judgement may be required, for both self and others, in planning and selecting processes, procedures or outcomes.

Integrated learning activities in this course consists of theory and practical components carried out in a workshop environment. Throughout the course, you will develop the skills and knowledge to create custom-made footwear products.  You will learn to use and work with a range of materials, suppliers and components used in footwear manufacturing.

This is a Vocational Education and Training qualification and is assessed for Competency. To be assessed as Competent means you have consistently demonstrated the required knowledge and skills at a standard required in the workplace. To be assessed as Competent in this course, you will need to complete each assessment task to a satisfactory standard. You will receive feedback from the teacher at the conclusion of each assessment task.

Assessment Tasks

This course is assessed in accordance with the competency-based assessment. To demonstrate competency in this course you will need to complete the following pieces of assessment to a satisfactory standard. You will receive feedback from the teacher at the conclusion of each assessment task. 


Assessment will take the form of estimating and costing of a shoe that will be designed and produced by the student.

Task 1


Summary and Purpose of Assessment

This short-answer assessment task is one of four assessment tasks you need to complete satisfactorily, in order to be deemed competent for this unit. 

This assessment task allows you to demonstrate your knowledge required to:

  • Plan and implement production within a work team
  • Estimate materials, labour and time requirements, and establish costs for products
  • Trial and fit custom-made footwear


Assessment Instructions

What

  • You must satisfactorily answer all 15 questions
  • You should answer all questions in the spaces provided, using full sentences, word count and dot points when requested
  • All work must be your own

 

Where

This is an online assessment task. You will need to answer all questions on CANVAS.

 

How

The knowledge assessment is accessed through the Canvas shell and you must complete and submit your responses within the allocated assessment timeframe.

 

If you are not able to attend the scheduled assessment timeframe you need to advise your teacher so that an alternative assessment arrangement can be made. This knowledge assessment is an individual assessment task that must be completed with minimal support from your supervisor (allowed support includes further explanation of the task requirements or explanation of assessment criteria etc).


Task 2

Summary and Purpose of Assessment

This practical assessment task is the second of four assessment tasks you need to complete satisfactorily, in order to be deemed competent for this unit. 

 

This practical assessment will allow you to demonstrate your ability to plan and implement production within a work team within a textiles, clothing or footwear (TCF) industry workplace.

There are 3 parts to this task, you will be required to complete:

Part 1: Prepare for production 

Part 2: Organise team and resources

Part 3: Implement and monitor work flow

Where

This assessment will be conducted in the footwear workshop.

How

You will be assessed against the criteria as listed in the observation checklist. To achieve a satisfactory result, you will need to address all criteria satisfactorily.


Task 3

This practical assessment task is the third of four assessment tasks you need to complete satisfactorily, in order to be deemed competent for this unit. 

 

This practical assessment will allow you to demonstrate your ability to estimate materials, labour and time requirements, and establish costs for custom-made footwear.

There are 3 parts to this task, you will be required to complete:

Part 1: Estimate materials, labour and time

Part 2: Calculate costs

Part 3: Document and verify details

Where

This assessment will be conducted in the footwear workshop.

How

You will be assessed against the criteria as in the observation checklist. To achieve a satisfactory result, you will need to address all criteria satisfactorily.


Task 4

Summary and Purpose of Assessment

This practical assessment task is the final of four assessment tasks you need to complete satisfactorily, in order to be deemed competent for this unit. 

This practical assessment will allow you to demonstrate your ability to trial and fit custom-made footwear.

 

Assessment Instructions

 

What

There are 4 parts to this task, you will be required to complete:

Part 1: Prepare to fit custom-made footwear 

Part 2: Conduct trial fittings

Part 3: Conduct client follow up      

Part 4: Document outcomes of follow-up

 

You are required to fit custom-made footwear and consult with the client for further adjustments, on 3 occasions.

Where

This assessment will be conducted in the footwear workshop.

How

You will be assessed against the criteria as listed in the observation checklist. To achieve a satisfactory result, you will need to address all criteria satisfactorily.
