Course Description
You will develop skills and knowledge required to apply workplace policies and procedures to maintain a safe work environment for self and others. Communication skills and understanding are also required to interpret and understand what is required to provide a safe workplace. This unit also requires the ability to use initiative and enterprise and problem solving strategies to identify and act upon hazards and risks within the workplace.

Details of Learning Activities
Integrated learning activities in this course consists of theory and practical components carried out in a workshop environment. Throughout the course, you will develop the skills and knowledge to create custom-made footwear products. You will learn to use and work with a range of materials, suppliers and components used in footwear manufacturing.

Overview of Assessment
Assessment is ongoing throughout the semester and will consist of both theory and practical based exercises, predominantly in class but some out of class research and information formatting is required as well. Feedback will be provided throughout the semester on all assessment tasks.
All assessment tasks must be completed before competency can be achieved. Tasks that have not be authenticated in class as the student’s own work will not be considered for assessment. Regular attendance is encouraged.

Assessment Tasks
There are two assessment tasks for this unit.
1) Students are required to make a visual inspection of the eye wash station located in 513.02.04 to check that it is working correctly and provide verbal explanation of:
- correct operating procedure
- examples of when it would be used.
- and complete eye wash checklist
2) This assessment is to be completed via Canvas and consists of short answers or multiple choice questions.
Each module will be accessible two weeks after the release of the previous module.

Learning Materials
In this course, Canvas is primarily used to supplement face to face work. You will use Canvas to complete quizzes and locate assignment materials. Some additional support items have been provided in some weeks, such as additional readings, slides, and links to videos.
However, all activities and the main delivery of course content occurs in a classroom, face to face via a blend learning activities of self-paced and practical exercises.
