WEEK 9

Quality _ Course overview, Introduction to Project Briefs

Introduction to quality control / quality assurance, workplace policies and procedures.  Overview of assessment tasks.

Learning Activity:  Quality Powerpoint, Videos – Quality Control/Assurance, Quality Definitions.

Session : Intro to Quality – Specification Sheets, Quality Indicators for TCF.

Class Activity:   Class Activity:  Using the specification sheet – work in pairs and draw a ‘technical flat’ of the garment on the person sitting next to you.

Definition – what is a technical flat – their use in garment/interior specifications.

Student Research:  Identify textile/fashion - label/maker/garment that is a ‘good’ indication of a quality product.  Class activity – brainstorm what is it about that product that has achieved a quality outcome.

WEEK 10

Quality Principles  _  Quality Assurance – how to develop workplace documents to guide and specify quality for Textile Products.  What is a Textile Product.  What are the contributing factors to sourcing and specifying materials for a quality outcome.  Brainstorm – Textile Product, Raw Materials, Textile Components etc.

Session 2 : Intro to Quality Control / Assurance

Class Activity:  Using the swatch record – identify one raw material, component and research the supplier – identify on the swatch record all the Quality indicators of that material/product.  Eg. zips, buttons, fabric, fibre, yarn etc.

Student Research:  Identify textile/fashion - label/maker/garment that is a ‘poor’ indication of a quality product.  Class activity – brainstorm what is it about that product that has not achieved a quality outcome.  Identify what are quality indicators.

WEEK 11

Quality Principles  _  Quality Assurance _ Establishing production processes, material and quality checking procedures

Session 3 : Standards (ISO and AS)

Class activity:  Powerpoint Standards – handout Australian Standards.  Students use the library login to access the care labelling and fibre type standards.  Class brainstorm – what other tests are done on a textile product.

The company decides what tests are done.  There is no Aust Standard for what tests must be done.  Eg. swimwear, upholstery, childrenswear.  Common sense is used to determine the appropriate tests and ‘what does the consumer expect’.

WEEK 12

Quality Principles _ Specification Sheets - Establishing quality assurance expectations for or a small range by documenting specifications of raw materials and goods to be supplied

Session 4 : Standards Pt 2. - Care Labelling

Students bring copies of the Standards and a class brainstorm is done on what tests are done on a  textile product.  Exercise:  use a garment care label to identify if it complies with the AS.

WEEK 13

Implement project quality improvements confirming precise quality requirements with supplier and negotiating agreed quality assurance system and delivery dates

Session 5 : Swatch Specification Record / Templates

Expanding on Session 2 – students determine textile product and complete workplace documents to guide production including swatch specification record, supplier information sheet, non-compliance record.

WEEK 14

Maintaining records of quality assurance process and preparing reports according to workplace procedures.

Session 5 : Student self-directed completion of Assessment Tasks 1 & 2
