Course Description

This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge to monitor and maintain work health and safety (WHS) within a work area where the person has supervisory responsibility for others.
This unit applies to laboratory technicians, senior technicians and laboratory managers in all industry sectors.

Assessment conditions

Describe how assessments meet the assessment conditions

Skills must have been demonstrated in the workplace or in a simulated environment that reflects workplace conditions and contingencies. The following conditions must be met for this unit:

RMIT provides classrooms, workshops, facilities, labs and studios where students can train and practice their skills in a safe environment that simulates working conditions of industry.

 

All specialist equipment and resources needed for training and assessment is supplied by RMIT.  Students may need to provide certain equipment such as an external portable flash drive memory.

  • use of suitable facilities, equipment and resources, including:

typical laboratory/field work equipment and materials

  • PPE and other safety equipment

 

  • workplace WHS documentation, management system, policies and procedures.

 

 

RMIT employment requires all trainers and assessors to comply with the Standards for RTOs in respect to holding the TAE40116, or higher VE qualification including any necessary updated units.  All employees must show currency within their vocational specialty along with their professional employment.
