You must show evidence of the ability to complete tasks outlined in elements and performance criteria of this unit, manage tasks and manage contingencies in the context of the job role. There must be evidence that you have:

• produced 30 acceptable dental radiographic images in a simulated environment including:

  • applying safe work practices for dental radiography work including:
    • following standard and additional precautions
    • operating a radiographic unit correctly
    • safely using radiation in dentistry

• produced and critiqued 20 acceptable dental intraoral radiographic images taken on a minimum of 10 different people demonstrating skills in periapical (PA) and bitewings (BW)

• produced and critiqued 10 acceptable dental extraoral radiographic images taken on a minimum of 10 different people.

To be deemed competent you must demonstrate an understanding of all aspects required of the competency.

Regular attendance is necessary.

Assessment methods have been designed to measure your achievement of each competency in a flexible manner over multiple tasks and consist of knowledge and practical based tasks.

Assessment Tasks

Students enrolled in Vocational Education and Training qualifications are assessed for Competency. To be assessed as Competent means you have consistently demonstrated the required knowledge and skills at a standard expected in then workplace.

In order to comply with the legal requirements of this unit, students will be required to keep the Log Book up to date during their work practice under supervision of the licenced operator in their workplace. The Log Book will be required to be submitted to the lead teacher upon request for the purpose of a regular monitoring in student skill gaining.

To be assessed as Competent in this course, you will need to complete each assessment task to a satisfactory standard. You will receive feedback from the teacher at the conclusion of each assessment task.

Results that apply to courses that are delivered and assessed in accordance with competency-based assessment are:

CA: Competency Achieved
NYC: Not Yet Competent
DNS: Did not Submit for Assessment

You should refer to the assessment brief which is available through Canvas for full assessment criteria.

Assessment Task 1: Dental Anatomy Assessment

This is an open book assessment scheduled to be completed in class via Collaborate Ultra. This assessment will assist students in understanding and interpreting geometric and visual qualities of the radiographs. In order to achieve a Satisfactory result, student must complete ALL questions successfully. Further details will be communicated to student during their attendance.
