Course Description

This unit describes the skills and knowledge to examine the major body systems, the organs which belong to them and their functions.

In this course we will have a combination of the following learning activities-

The following is the detail of the class schedule( 2022)-

Week 1	7th Feb.	Overview, Cells, tissues, organs- Learning about hierarchy and discuss structure about cells, tissues and organs
Week 2	14th Feb.	Overview, Cells, tissues, organs- Continue with lesson 1 and revise the concepts
Week 3	21st Feb.	Digestive System- Learning and understanding about digestive system and its conditions
Week 4	28th Feb.	Respiratory System- Learning and understanding about respiratory system, its basic working and conditions of the system
Week 5	7th March	Cardiovascular System part 1: Heart- Though we will also do a dissection of the heart but we will learn the parts of the heart and how they help in working of heart and the diseases of heart
Week 6	14th March	Cardiovascular System part 2: Blood- We will study the different elements that make up the blood and how are they help the body. We will also learn about blood groups and diseases of blood
Week 7	21st March	Linking digestive, respiratory and cardiovascular systems Practical (to be written up as a report)- Practical work to be done and will be discussed in detail in class.
Week 8	28th March	Revision- To prepare for Mid semester assessment AT 1. REPORT due by 29th March  2022 at 11.59 p.m. Through Canvas
Week 9	4th April	AT 2. MID-SEMESTER THEORY EXAM
Week 9	11th April	Mid Semester Break ( 14th - 20th April)
Week 10	18th April	Skeletal system- We will learn about different bones, their name and basic structures and the conditions that affect skeletal system.
Week 11	25th April	Skeletal system (Contd.)  Discuss and give outline of Assessment 3.
Week 12	2nd  May	Muscular system- We will learn about different types of muscles in our body, their structure and how they help us.
Week 13	9th May	AT 3. DISORDER AFFECTING A BODY SYSTEM (POSTER) Due on 10th May 2022 at 11:59pm through Canvas
Week 14	16th May	Nervous System- We will study functions of the system, the parts of nervous system and what each part is responsible for. We will also learn about nervous tissue and some diseases affecting nervous system

1. Report- This assessment task is based on the practical that you will complete for linking three body systems and then write a complete report and answer some questions related to the practical.	29th March
2. MID-SEMESTER THEORY TEST- This assessment task will include short answer, multiple choice and diagram labelling questions and will be from Topics Cells and Tissues, Digestive system,  respiratory system and cardiovascular system.	Week of 4th  April
3. DISORDER AFFECTING A BODY SYSTEM (POSTER)- This assessment task will involve presenting a poster of a selected body system and differentiating between normal and diseased organ in that system. You will also be involved with analysing a fellow student poster.	10th May
4. FINAL THEORY TEST- This assessment task will include short answer, multiple choice and diagram labelling questions and will be from Topics Skeletal system, Muscle system and Nervous system.	Week of 30th  May

Decision making rules

To pass the course you need achieve a satisfactory result for every assessment.
You will be given only one resubmission attempt for each assessment to demonstrate you have the required skills on teacher's discretion. You need to show good understanding of the contents to be granted resubmission.

A second resubmission attempt can only be offered after discussions between the teacher and the Program Coordinator and is not automatic.

Every task must be completed satisfactorily for competence to be achieved.
SATISFACTORY RESULT NEEDS TO BE OBTAINED IN ALL TASKS TO GET A COMPETENT RESULT.

If you miss a practical class that is assessed or an assessment ,you need to provide a medical certificate (or other evidence) and arrange an alternative report with your teacher. Please see the details below.

Late work that is submitted without an application for an extension (see below) will not be corrected.

APPLICATION FOR EXTENSION OF TIME FOR SUBMISSION OF ASSESSABLE WORK - A student may apply for an extension of up to 7 days from the original due date. They must lodge the application form (available online http://www1.rmit.edu.au/students/assessment/extension) at least 24 hours before the due date. The application is lodged with the School Admin Office on Level 6, Bdg 51. Students requiring longer extensions must apply for SPECIAL CONSIDERATION.

For missed assessments such as exams- you (& your doctor if you are sick) must fill out a special consideration form. This form must be lodged online with supporting evidence prior to, or within, 48 hours of the scheduled time of examination

A minimum of 80% attendance at practical classes is required to pass this course. If you are sick you should submit a medical certificate to 6th floor office addressed to the Program Coordinator. If you miss a practical class that is a prac report write up you need to provide a medical certificate (or other evidence) and arrange an alternative report with your teacher

Extensions of time for submission of assessable work:
