Course Description

This unit describes the skills and knowledge to examine the major body systems, the organs which belong to them and their functions.

Blended learning includes a combination of lectures, tutorials, online learning and  practical activities.

Digestive System- Learning and understanding about digestive system and its conditions

Respiratory System- Learning and understanding about respiratory system, its basic working and conditions of the system

Cardiovascular System part 1: Heart- Though we will also do a dissection of the heart but we will learn the parts of the heart and how they help in working of heart and the diseases of heart

Cardiovascular System part 2: Blood- We will study the different elements that make up the blood and how are they help the body. We will also learn about blood groups and diseases of blood

Linking digestive, respiratory and cardiovascular systems Practical

(to be written up as a report)- Practical work to be done and will be discussed in detail in class.

Assessment Tasks

 1. Report- This assessment task is based on the practical that you will complete for linking three body systems and then write a complete report and answer some questions related to the practical.  29th March 
 2. MID-SEMESTER THEORY TEST- This assessment task will include short answer, multiple choice and diagram labelling questions and will be from Topics Cells and Tissues, Digestive system,  respiratory system and cardiovascular system.  Week of 4th  April
 3. DISORDER AFFECTING A BODY SYSTEM (POSTER)- This assessment task will involve presenting a poster of a selected body system and differentiating between normal and diseased organ in that system. You will also be involved with analysing a fellow student poster. 10th May
 4. FINAL THEORY TEST- This assessment task will include short answer, multiple choice and diagram labelling questions and will be from Topics Skeletal system, Muscle system and Nervous system. Week of 30th  May

Decision making rules

To pass the course you need achieve a satisfactory result for every assessment.
You will be given only one resubmission attempt for each assessment to demonstrate you have the required skills on teacher's discretion. You need to show good understanding of the contents to be granted resubmission.

A second resubmission attempt can only be offered after discussions between the teacher and the Program Coordinator and is not automatic.

Every task must be completed satisfactorily for competence to be achieved.
SATISFACTORY RESULT NEEDS TO BE OBTAINED IN ALL TASKS TO GET A COMPETENT RESULT.

Late work that is submitted without an application for an extension (see below) will not be corrected.

APPLICATION FOR EXTENSION OF TIME FOR SUBMISSION OF ASSESSABLE WORK - A student may apply for an extension of up to 7 days from the original due date. They must lodge the application form (available online http://www1.rmit.edu.au/students/assessment/extension) at least 24 hours before the due date. The application is lodged with the School Admin Office on Level 6, Bdg 51. Students requiring longer extensions must apply for SPECIAL CONSIDERATION.

For missed assessments such as exams- you (& your doctor if you are sick) must fill out a special consideration form. This form must be lodged online with supporting evidence prior to, or within, 48 hours of the scheduled time of examination

A minimum of 80% attendance at practical classes is required to pass this course. If you are sick you should submit a medical certificate to 6th floor office addressed to the Program Coordinator. If you miss a practical class that is a prac report write up you need to provide a medical certificate (or other evidence) and arrange an alternative report with your teacher
