Course Description

The unit describes the skills and knowledge required to identify Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander cultural safety issues in the workplace, model cultural safety in own work practice, and develop strategies to enhance cultural safety.

This unit applies to people working in a broad range of roles including those involved in direct client service, program planning, development and evaluation contexts.

Overview of Assessment

There are two individual assessment tasks consisting of a presentation and short answer questions. 


Assessment Tasks

You will be given two (2) attempts for each assessment to demonstrate the required knowledge and skills. A third (3rd) attempt can only be offered after discussions between teacher and the Program Coordinator and is not automatic. Resubmissions beyond two (2) attempts are at the discretion of the teacher and/or coordinator.

Assessment Task 1 - Knowledge Questions

The purpose of this task is to demonstrate  knowledge of the skills required to identify Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander cultural safety issues in the workplace, modelling cultural safety in your own work practices and develop strategies to enhance cultural safety.

Assessment Task 2 - Promote Aboriginal Cultural Safety

Students are required to research, develop and deliver a presentation to their peers to demonstrate knowledge of the culture, history, impact of European colonisation, loss of land and culture and the importance of lore, gender roles and kinship for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples.
