Course Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required for a worker to participate in safe work practices to ensure their own health and safety, and that of others in work environments that involve caring directly for clients. It has a focus on maintaining safety of the worker, the people being supported and other community members.
This unit applies to all workers who require knowledge of workplace health and safety (WHS) to carry out their own work, in both centre-based and home-based service provision.

Details of Learning Activities
Classes are delivered face to face where information is shared through talks and discussions, and workshops where exercises are conducted to apply learning. Time is spent during classes for students to work on group and individual assessment tasks.
In your own time, you will be expected to keep up-to-date with the readings and videos that will be made available to you on Canvas. The classes, readings and videos will prepare you to be able to complete your course assessments

Overview of Assessment
There are three individual assessment tasks consisting of case study analysis, role plays, and short answer questions.
Assessment Tasks
You will be given two (2) attempts for each assessment to demonstrate the required knowledge and skills. A third (3rd) attempt can only be offered after discussions between teacher and the Program Coordinator and is not automatic. Resubmissions beyond two (2) attempts are at the discretion of the teacher and/or coordinator. Assessment Task 1 - Perform a workplace risk assessment.
Assessment Task 1 - Complete Hand Hygiene on-Line Module & Fire Safety
This assessment requires you to demonstrate knowledge and learning for safe house keeping practices and client safety with home based fires.
Assessment Task 2 - Hazard Report, Risk Assessment & Incident report
Students are required to complete three task as part of this assessment to demonstrate skills in reporting risk related issues, develop measures for prevention and gain understanding in reporting procedures.
Assessment 3 - Short Answer Questions:
Student are required to complete and provide responses to questions and case scenario's to demonstrate knowledge, understanding and learning from this unit.
