Course Description
This unit describes the knowledge and skills required to work in the community to facilitate public awareness and resolution of a range of issues of public concern.

Details of Learning Activities
You will be involved in learning activities in 1 evening & I full day workshop. Activities will include group discussions and activities. Reflection on your own work context is a significant aspect of the course and you will be given opportunities to discuss and think about your own practice.

Where the teacher has used a powerpoint presentation during the workshop, these resources and other learning activities and handouts will be made available to enroled students post the workshop via electronic methods
Overview of Assessment
Assessment for this course is based on responding to written questions about your community development project, about community based processes and the support you receive for the project from government and local organisations and networks. Responses to written questions about different approaches to community development including locally based/ locally managed community organisations, community education, social action and asset based community development will also be required in the workshop.
Assessment Tasks
There are 2 specific tasks which assess this course.
Task One: Provide short answer written responses to questions contained in a funding application. These questions will illicit information about how you work effectively to support your group to undertake community action. You will also be required to describe the community consultation you undertook and data collected from relevant stakeholders about the impacts of social structures/systems such as institutions, legislation and the provision of services and how these impact on your community group and wider society.
Task Two: A written report demonstrating your ability to support a community group to consolidate their abilities to work together towards community action, your ability to foster networks that support your community and finally, your ability to undertake and analyse community-based research into social systems and structures that impact upon your community members.
