This unit specifies the outcomes required to research and recommend soft furnishings for various decoration and design solutions to meet client and project brief requirements.

Learning Outcomes
This unit supports the attainment of skills and knowledge required for competent research and recommendation of soft furnishings which include curtains and window fittings, carpets, rugs and textiles used in upholstery, cushions and trimmings, in order to achieve integrated decoration and design solutions to meet a project brief.

Overview of Assessment
• Effectively research soft furnishings to assist with informing the decoration process and arrive at a solution which meets client requirements
• Effectively apply design elements and principles to the recommendation of soft furnishings to achieve a minimum of two integrated decorative solutions
• Correctly calculate quantities and costings required to achieve decorative solution
• Visually present decorative ideas
• Comply with legislation, regulations, standards, codes of practice and established safe practices and procedures for researching and recommending soft furnishings
Assessment Tasks
Assessment tasks in this course are either formative or summative. Formative tasks provide the basis for ongoing feedback and can be considered essential building blocks for the more substantial summative assessment tasks. Summative assessment tasks in this course are graded.Assessment is on-going throughout the course. Assessment will incorporate a range of methods to assess performance and the application of knowledge and skills

To demonstrate competency in this course you need to complete each one of the following pieces of assessment to a satisfactory standard.
Task 1: Fabric Swatch Book
We will continue to build on the investigative work you have
commenced in semester 1 in Decorate Residential Interiors.
To explore Fibres & weaves in depth and to assist your understanding of fabrics for suitable
application in the Interiors Industry.
Task 2: "When we were Young" Child’s bedroom fit out
You will be required to link this project to the investigative work you commenced in Decorate
Residential Interiors under different decorating styles.
Further to this you will be required to design, source and document all aspects of this project to
allow you to make a proposal to a client.
Task 3: On-line assessment Quiz & a calculation Assessment for Window treatments.
There will be a series of on line quizzes to validate your learning in this speciality area.
All tasks must be completed to gain a pass in this course and be deemed competent overall.
Soft Furnishings for Interiors is a perquisite for Specify Furnishing Solutions or Industry experience.
You will receive feedback with verbal and/or written evaluation of your progress within class time. The submitted projects will be assessed with written feedback as well as a quality indicator that relates to separate components of the project and the overall outcome. At the completion of the course, grading will be offered in addition to, and after, competency based assessment.
