Course Description

The unit focuses on the application of project management skills and the requirement to meet time lines, quality standards, budgetary limits and other requirements set for the project.

The unit does not apply to specialist project managers. For specialist project managers, the units of competency in the Project Management competency field will be applicable.

2.5. Consult team members and take their views into account in planning the project

3.4. Implement and monitor plans for managing project finances, resources (human, physical and technical) and quality

Learning Outcomes


This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to manage a straightforward project or a section of a larger project.


Details of Learning Activities

A range of individual and group teaching and learning methods will be used as practical skills and knowledge activities which will include for this unit:
• developing a portfolios of evidence and third party workplace reports of on-the-job performance by the student
• observation and delivering presentations
• oral or written questioning to assess knowledge of how the PR campaigns process relates to the organization’s overall mission, goals, objectives and operations
• • analysis of documentation reviewing outcomes and processes against the PR campaign scope and plan
• evaluation of project reports forwarded to stakeholders and documentation outlining lessons learnt from the PR campaign process.

Overview of Assessment

Students must demonstrate an understanding of all elements of a particular competency to be deemed competent. Assessment methods have been designed to measure achievement of each competency in a flexible manner over a range of assessment tasks.

Assessment will incorporate a variety of methods including assignments, journals, presentation and written or test. Students are advised that they are likely to be asked to personally demonstrate their assessment work to their teacher to ensure that the relevant competency standards are being met.
 


Assessment Tasks

A range of assessment methods will be used to assess practical skills and knowledge which will include for this unit:
• writing a business report on the outcomes of the project which will review portfolios of evidence and third party workplace reports of on-the-job performance by the candidate
• observation of presentations
• oral or written questioning to assess knowledge of how the project relates to the organisation’s overall mission, goals, objectives and operations

• evaluation of project reports forwarded to stakeholders

• evaluation of documentation outlining lessons learnt from the project.

Assessment 1
Individual /groups
Length: Varies between 300 – 500 words
Analysis of public relations campaigns supplied. Individual activities are assessed that look at the function, form and strategy of different forms of public relations
Assessment 2
In Groups
Develop campaign recommendations for new pitch for a company or organisation. Group activities requiring development of strategies and creative recommendations. Report to support the recommendations.Individual
Covers students’ knowledge, skills in project concepts and strategic thinking will be tested based on lecture notes and activities covered during the semester.

Assessment 3 Major Assignment – Report and Presentation
Group Report
Length: 1500 words
Presentation: 10 minutes
Preparing, submitting and presenting to a client a full set of recommendations for the required project, event or campaign. Group activity requires presentation to client on development of strategies, creative, media and budgetary recommendations. All team members to participate in the Report and presentation. Report to support presentation and contact reports of student team meetings required.
