Course Description
In this course you will be required to produce media photo images for newspaper and magazine editors.

Assessment Tasks
Assessment tasks in this course are either formative or summative. Formative tasks provide the basis for ongoing feedback and can be considered essential building blocks for the more substantial summative assessment tasks. Summative assessment tasks in this unit are graded. For further information on the assessment and grading criteria, please refer to the course Blackboard site.
To demonstrate competency in this course, you need to complete each one of the following pieces of assessment to a satisfactory standard.
Assessment Task/s:
The following brief comprises 3 pieces of assessment work.
*There are 3 parts to the assessments:
Formative Task 1 – Parts 1 & 2
RESEARCH and CAPTURE. You are required to produce the necessary documentation prior to CAPTURE.
Summative Task - Part 3
The 3rd part of the assessment is the IMAGE submission .
Formative Task 1: Reportage major newspaper worthy photograph
Part 1: After assessment brief you are to research and submit a minimum of 6 images sourced from web, magazine and discussion with your teacher and stylist.
Formative Task Part 2: Execute location shoot during class in the prescribed manner.
Due end of class.
Consult teacher.
Work collaboratively.
Book equipment.
Organise props & location.
Execute shoot.
Post production.
Assessment will be based on the degree of effort expended in terms of quality of lighting and its relevance, propping, design creativity, composition, level of viewer interest, mood, effectiveness of result, focus and exposure, presentation and the extent to which your initial idea is pursued.
Proposed ideas are to be discussed with your teacher prior to commencement to ensure suitability of choice and approach. These proposals must be fully detailed and documented before seeking approval. ie ideas listed, sketches of layout, possible props, lighting style and equipment required, etc. students are expected to team up with at least one other student in order to assist one another in pre-production and execution of each individuals assessment.

Formative Task 2 Editorial architectural/urban [feature spread 3 pgs]
After assessment brief you are to research and submit a minimum of 6 images sourced from web, magazine and discussion with your teacher and stylist.
This will be done in Week 7.
Formative Assessment Due Week 7 – on server
Formative Task 3 Street/documentary contemporary
After assessment brief you are to research and submit a minimum of 6 images sourced from web, magazine and discussion with your teacher and stylist.
This will be done in Week 8.
*Summative Assessment Submission - Week 16
*Group critique
(to be presented as a folio of 10 – 15 images – digital)
final folio will comprise of works generated in:
produce commercial photoimages
produce media photoimages
produce an innovative presentation of professional work
research role and the use of the photoimage in visual communication
any other work/s deemed appropriate
Submit all 3 assessments as per specifications on the RMIT C5041 Server.

Attendance
The major learning experience involves studio based exercises, demonstration and production. It is strongly advised that students attend all sessions in order to engage in the required learning activities, ensuring the maximum opportunity to gain the competency.
