Course Description
In this course you will develop the techniques required to research, conceive, capture and produce a substantial photographic project. The focus of the units is each student to produce their own coffee table stylebook.
The unit is taught in conjunction with ‘Prepare images for Prepress Processing’ CUVPHI530A which concentrates on the output skills to produce a book.

Assessment tasks in this course include:

• Direct observation of candidate applying a typical
workflow in illustrative photo imaging professional practice
Assessment Tasks
To demonstrate competency in this course, you will need to complete the following pieces of assessment to a satisfactory standard. You will receive feedback on all assessment (refer to myRMIT for assessment criteria).
Assignment 1 Part A – Book Proposal
Due: Week 4
Graded Assessment
Students are required to source and confirm a subject or topic for a photojournalistic/documentry based project.
Based on this idea, easch student will submit a book proposal and present a 5min summary on their idea to the class. Your proposal will be based on a photojournalistic/documentary based project and will be presented in an A4 portrait format. The brief should outline the following areas you will be assessed on:
- Presentation of proposed Subject + Style - Influences, challenges
- Equipment, permissions, OH&S issues, logistic, timeline outcomes,
- Budget + estimated costs
You will also be assessed on

Assignment 1 Part B – Final Book (print ready) PDF
Due: Week 13
Graded Assessment
Final print ready PDF of book. This includes all photography, text and layout of the project exported for print.
Assignment 2: Critique sessions

Critique Session 1 – Due: Week 6
Progressive One On One assessment of Book Project by appointment.
- The Critique assesses aspects of photography capture, continuity of story line, digital image process and potential output issues re layout and reproduction quality
(Minimum 4 images)
Critique Session 2 – Due: Week 9
Progressive One on One assessment of Book Project by appointment.
- The Critique assesses further development of photography capture, continuity of story line, digital image process and potential output issues re layout and reproduction quality
- Students to submit Font test and layout via photo copies
- Review of progress – editor/writers progress + sample copy
(Minimum 10 images)
Critique Session 3 – Due: Week 11
Progressive One On One assessment of Book Project by appointment.
