Course Description

This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required for you to construct a range of models from a impressions and moulds of patients upper and lower jaws. The models you construct will be used as the foundation for various dental appliances, such as; special trays, mouthguards, full dentures, partial dentures, crown and bridge, cobalt chrome frameworks . All procedures are carried out in accordance with work health and safety (WHS) policies and procedures, current infection control guidelines, Australian and New Zealand Standards, state/territory legislative requirements and organisation policy.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this course you will be able to demonstrate, on a consistent basis, the process involved in constructing models from impressions and silicone moulds of patients upper and lower jaws for use as a foundation for various dental appliances to be constructed upon.


Overview of Assessment

You will be assessed in a simulated workplace and under the normal range of work conditions.

You will be assessed on both the essential knowledge and the demonstration of essential skills through;

  1. Completion of practical exercises - including detailed self reflection of each exercise
  2. Practical exam
  3. Theory exam
