Pre-requisites and Co-requisites
This unit of competency is co delivered with HLTAP501C Analyse Health Information. This co delivered unit has the prerequisite attached HLTAP401B Confirmed Physical Health Status which must be successfully completed prior to the commencement of this unit.
Course Description
This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required of an Enrolled/Division 2 Nurse in contributing to the development of individualised health care plans by collection of data captured during a client’s preliminary and ongoing health assessments. Assessment is based on a lifespan approach
The knowledge and skills described in thiscompetency unit are to be applied withinjurisdictional nursing and midwifery regulatory authority legislative requirements. Enrolled/Division 2 nursing work is to be carried out in consultation/collaboration with registered nurse and under direct or indirect supervisory arrangements in line with jurisdictional regulatory requirements

Lesson 2:Growth and Development
On completion of this lecture & with further reading, discussion & practice the learner will be able to:
- Identify different growth & development stages of the various age groups
- Identify different health care needs of the various age groups
- Understand the expectations of the Division 2 role meeting all legal & professional criteria
- Discuss Freud’s, Erikson’s and Piaget’s theories of development
- Describe the developmental stages for each phase of the lifespan
- Discuss health care needs across the lifespan
Lesson 3: Holistic Assessment
- Identify & discuss the potential impact of health practices on health
- Define & discuss the concepts of a holistic health assessment, including –
- How to obtain a health history
- How to conduct a physical head to toe examination
- Documentation of lifestyle patterns, health practices, coping mechanisms, age, gender, cultural & spiritual data
- The importance of involving the client where possible in the health assessment
Lesson 4: Holistic Assessment
- Discuss Coping mechanisms with hospital admission & HAS
- Discuss gender, cultural, religious, spiritual consideration & barriers
- Discuss how you would obtain accurate & appropriate information from the family about clients health if patient was unable to communicate
- Discuss the emotional and physical needs of families and significant others to support the patients
- Identify what referrals nurses could implement to support families

Lesson 7: Mobility
o On completion of this lecture & with further reading, discussion & practice the learner will be able to –
o Describe the principles of good body alignment and posture
o Describe the complications associated with immobility
o Use the nursing process to assess clients activity and exercise needs
o State appropriate nursing diagnoses for impaired mobility
o Develop nursing care plans for clients with impaired mobility
o Describe interventions to maintain body alignment
