Course Description

This course addresses the collection, application and updating of general industry information needed to write a range of documentation relevant to the creative arts industries.

Overview of Assessment

Assessment is on-going throughout the course. Assessment will incorporate a range of methods to assess performance and the application of knowledge and skills and will include the development and refinement of a range of writing pieces which address the current standards used in the workplace. All assessment should meet a professional level of completion and will include:

  • participation in written exercises, in class and online
  • oral presentations/case studies
  • questioning and observation
  • the application of current industry research learned skills and insights


Assessment Tasks

To demonstrate competency in this course you will need to complete the following assessment to a satisfactory standard. You will receive feedback on all assessment and once you have demonstrated competency, you will receive a grade for Assessment Task 2 (refer to myRMIT for grading rubric).

Assessment Task 1: Identify a project and relevant grant
Due date: 5 May 2015

You will identify a project that you may wish to develop and find a corresponding grant program you could apply for to support the project.

Assessment Task 2: Complete a grant application
Due date: 26 May 2015

You will complete a grant application based on an actual granting program from a local government, state or federal arts agency, or a philanthropic trust.

Assessment will be based on:

  • how well the grant proposal responds to the specific criteria of the scheme: the accuracy, readability and completeness of the submission, its compatibility with the requirements of the scheme
  • your knowledge of the creative arts industry, laws and regulations, funding sources and the strategic elements of grant writing.

Attendance
The major learning experience involves studio based exercises, demonstration and production. It is strongly advised that students attend all sessions in order to engage in the required learning activities, ensuring the maximum opportunity to gain the competency. Non-attendance may seriously jeopardise the chances of success in a course. Clearly, non-attendance at an assessment will result in failure of that assessment. Where visa conditions apply, attendance is compulsory.

Credit Transfer and Recognition of Prior Learning (web link)
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a process through which people can gain entry to, or credit in, recognised courses based on competencies gained. The competencies may have been gained through experience in the workplace, in voluntary work, in social or domestic activities or through informal or formal training or other life experiences. Recognition of Current Competency (RCC) applies if a student has previously successfully completed the requirements of a unit of competency or module and is now required to be reassessed to ensure that the competency has been maintained.

All assessment tasks are required to be completed to a satisfactory level. If you are unable to complete any piece of assessment by the due date, you will need to apply for an extension.
