Course Description

In this course you will develop the skills and knowledge required to develop an agency approach to young people in crisis.

This unit is taught and assessed in a cluster with:

CHCYTH005 - Develop and implement procedures to enable young people to address their needs

CHCYTH008 - Support young people to take collective action

CHCYTH009 - Support youth programs

CHCYTH011 - Work effectively with young people and their families

CHCDEV002 - Analyse sociological factors on clients in community work and services

 

 Students typically do 160 hours of work placement undertaking youth work practice support the learning and assessment of these units

For this topic, we will discuss the strategies to work with YP and their families in different situations. We will have two weeks to complete this topic. The main content covered under this topic are:

 

 

What is a family?

 Establish relationship with the young person and nominated carer/family members

Provide information to the young person and family in a factual, clear and ethical manner.

 Obstacles to professional relationship with families and carers

Determine a mutual approach to addressing the young person’s needs

           Negotiate with the young person regarding their goals

You will be given two (2) attempts for each assessment to demonstrate the required skills.
