Course Description

This unit specifies the skills and knowledge required to evaluate materials and construction methods used on a site in order to determine their impact on the interior design brief.

Learning Outcomes


This unit supports the attainment of skills and knowledge required to identify the features and implications associated with common structural techniques used for walls, ceilings and floors and the materials used. It also covers a simple assessment of main services to determine suitability for design requirements.

Overview of Assessment

• Effectively assess structural and non structural elements of a site to determine implications for interior design
• Identify the features and implications of construction techniques identified in the range of variables
• Comply with legislation, regulations, standards, codes of practice and established safe practices and procedures for assessing a site
• Communicate effectively and work safely with others in the work area 
 


Assessment Tasks

You will undertake one major project which includes several key components to demonstrate your competence in a range of areas.

This major oroject is to detail a significant  renovation of a commercial or public building

Assessment tasks are linked to the subjects ARCH 5207C Evaluate Site for Interior Design Brief and GRAP 5208C Establish the Design Brief

Assessment Tasks include the following :

Photographic evidence and documentaiton of the Site Visit and an evaluation of site characteristics including: orientation, existing structures and services, heritage overlays and council regulations.

Task 1 : Concept Presentation

Themes and concepts are presented to the client using sketches ,mood boards and Concept boards

Task 2 : Board Presentation:

Final decoration solution solution is prsented to the client in a professional mannere using a range of digital media.

Task 3 Documentation;

Plans , elevations with schedules.
