Other Resources

  • Home computer - It is advisable that you have a computer at home on which to do your
self directed work (preferably a PC rather than Mac - as there is currently no Mac platform
for this software).  You can however use "bootcamp" or "parrallels" to run the PC version
  • Software - "Revit Architecture 2017" and "AutoCAD 2017" software is available for access
via RMIT for all students enrolled in the program. Authorisation for the software can also
be sought via AutoDesk. Details will be given in class
  • Authorisation - You can then receive an authorisation for the use of the software for 36
months at a time direct from AutoDesk (details will be supplied in first week)
  • Self paced online tutorial - If you find you are struggling with Revit, as an RMIT student
you will have access to the Lynda.com website tutorials. This can only be done for free via
    the link below:

  • Building 28, level 3 -  24 hour, 7 day a week access is available in all enrolled RMIT
students in this open access lab. Booking may be required (and will ensure you have
a PC for you) - due to renovations, this may have relocated to another building
  • Building 94, level 5, room 13 will be available most nights after 6pm till midnight (refer to to
timetable located on door of room). Note, an "access" form will need to be filled in and
approved prior to use of this room.
  • During the course, video files will be uploaded into the relevant blackboard (or Canvas) folder for
    assistance

The University Library has extensive resources for Interior Design students.
The Library has produced a subject guide that includes quality online and print resources for your studies http://rmit.libguides.com/interiordecoration

Overview of Assessment

Assessment for this course will be project based.

Assessment Tasks

Use CAD for design projects is a clustered unit. This will allow us to assess your project work
against several competencies.
This course is clustered with "Design for small-ed interiors (Studio prac 2)".

Project task:

Task 1:
The first task will involve the measureup of the façade of an existing building.  This will
include clearly labelled freehand sketches accompanied by photographs of the building

Task 2:
Based on the measurements taken, dimensions given by your peers as well as
those by your teacher, you will be required to draw the floorplan of the existing
conditions of the selected building (refer studio prac 2).  The level of detail will
be discussed and agreed by the group in consultation

Task 3:
Following on from the floorplan already drawn, you will be required to create demolition, proposed
drawings, along with internal elevations, sections, details, perspectives and renderings of the design
spaces.  At the end of the semester you will submit a set of working drawings and renderings
of this building complete with lighting and materials of a selected space.

Assessment Matrix

Assessment Matrix
For assessment matrix, refer to the "Blackboard" (or "Canvas") link located in MyRMIT". This file is
the "assessment" folder in the relevant course folder

All components must be addressed to gain a pass in this course and be deemed
competent overall

CHD  - Competent with High Distinction
CDI    - Competent with Distinction
CC     - Competent with Credit
CAG  - Competency Achieved – Graded
NYC   - Not Yet Competent
DNS   - Did Not Submit for Assessment

Other Information

Attendance:
The major learning experience involves studio based exercises, demonstration and production. It
is strongly advised that students attend all sessions in order to engage in the required learning
activities, ensuring the maximum opportunity to gain the competency.

Special Consideration Policy (Late Submission):
All assessment tasks are required to be completed to a satisfactory level. If you are unable to
complete any piece of assessment by the due date, you will need to apply for an extension.
Please refer to the following URL for extensions and special consideration.

Work not seen in progress:
If a student hands in any work that the teacher has never seen in class or discussed with the
student prior to the submission, the teacher can refuse to assess the work on the basis of
authentication issues.
