Course Description

This unit specifies the outcomes required to research and recommend soft furnishings for various decoration and design solutions to meet client and project brief requirements.

The types of openings and their requirements are identified and a range of possible creative solutions determined

Window or opening is measured and details recorded accurately for a range of window treatments

Fabric requirements are calculated and manufacturing requirements determined for a range of window treatments taking into consideration pattern repeats

Window treatment is selected and specified to meet client requirements and minimise environmental impact

Fixing technology is specified appropriate to selected window treatment

Tactile requirements of the soft furnishings in relation to the design are researched

Properties of the materials used in the production of soft furnishings are analysed and evaluated

Overview of Assessment

Assessment for this course is project based.


Assessment Tasks

 Feedback & assessment is on-going throughout the course. Assessment will incorporate a range of methods to assess performance and the application of knowledge and skills

Feedback throughout the course may be written, verbal or a combination of both - feedback needs to be recorded and acted upon

To demonstrate competency in this course you need to complete each one of the following pieces of assessment to a satisfactory standard.
 

Task 1: Explore 2 decoration options for a master bedroom and relaxation area  (DUE wk 9 - in class)
You will be required to design, source and document all aspects of this project to
allow you to propose 2 decoration options to a client for feedback to prepare final presentation (AT2)
 

Task 2: Present 2 decoration options for master bedroom and relaxation area to a client  (DUE wk 16 - in class)
Final presentation to client - inspiration, design style, fabrics, renderings, furnishings and accessories of chosen decoration option.

Task 3: Knowledge quiz  (DUE wk 15 - in class)
Knowledge quiz will cover foundation information considered relevant to soft furnishings.

All tasks must be completed to gain a pass in this course and be deemed competent overall.
 
Soft Furnishings for Interiors is a prerequisite for Specify Furnishing Solutions or Industry experience.
 
You will receive feedback with verbal and/or written evaluation of your progress within class time. The submitted projects will be assessed with written feedback as well as a quality indicator that relates to separate components of the project and the overall outcome (rubric).
At the completion of the course, grading will be offered in addition to, and after, competency based assessment.
