This unit of competency covers evaluating and participating in design industry networks to learn from others and develop networks which may assist with the progressing of own initiatives.

This unit requires established knowledge & skills from specialised design units in your foundation year of study.
Details of Learning Activities
This course includes a work integrated learning (WIL) experience in which your knowledge and skills will be applied and assessed in a real or simulated workplace context and where feedback from industry and/or community is integral to your experience.
This course offers you the option to undertake a Study Tour to Paris with set WIL activities to be completed and assessed against a specific task.
Due to limited places parallel WIL activities and assessment will be offered to onshore students eg. networking events through local industry organisations.
Learning activities will take place in a Lecture theatre using industry standard tools and resources. You will complete exercises and industry style projects. You will also be required to undertake independent study.

Assessment for this course will be project based.

Assessment Tasks
Feedback will be provided throughout the semester on all assessment tasks. Feedback throughout the
course may be written, verbal or a combination of both. To demonstrate competency in this course you
need to complete each one of the following pieces of assessment to a satisfactory standard.
Assessment Task 1- Professional Development Portfolio
You will develop a Professional Development Portfolio that includes the following :
- Diary of Network events
- Report of attendance at minimum of 3 Network events identified in Part A
- Development of ePortfolio including CV/Resume
Due Date : Week 4, Week 12, Week 16
Assessment Task 2 - Mentor Project
Part A - for students accepted to the RMIT/DIA Mentor Program, produce a detailed Mentor Report including log book of visits
Part B - for students not participating in RMIT/DIA Mentor Program, produce a Case Study of an Interior Designer/Decorator (min. 500 words with images and links)
Due Date : A & B - Week 15
Assessment Task 3 - Connect with Industry
Part A - for students participating in the Study Tour to Paris, produce a detailed Journal including industry connections, events and copy of project developed with FIT collaboration.
Part B - for students not participating in Study Tour, attend Portfolio Review Session and document in a written Report.
