Course Description
This course covers the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to design and develop resources to support the learning process.
This course includes a work integrated learning experience in which your knowledge and skills will be applied and assessed in a real or simulated workplace context and where feedback from industry and/or community is integral to your experience.

This course is online. Activities may include:
- Online activities which may include discussion threads and/or blogs and wikis
- Direct observation of actual and simulated work practice
- Oral or written questioning
- Assignments and projects
- Presentation of a portfolio of evidence which may comprise documents and/or photographs and/or video and audio files
- Review of products produced through work-based or course activities
- Third-party feedback from a work supervisor/employer
Teaching Schedule
This course is taught over 3 sessions in semester 2.
Note: While your facilitator will cover all the material in this schedule, the order is subject to change depending on class needs.
Session 1 - July 8th
Clarify what is needed in a learning resource; determine its focus and purpose; research your target audience; research training product options to meet needs of target audience; consult with clients/end-users.
Session 2 - July 15th
Generate a range of design options using a variety of techniques; develop and confirm with the client an outline or prototype for the learning resource; analyse content specifications of the learning product and map out proposed content
Session 3 - July 22nd
Develop content and content specifications in accordance with the agreed design; establish mechanisms for reviewing work in progress; ensure any text is clear, concise, grammatically correct and appropriate for the intended audience; ensure any visuals are relevant, instructive and appropriate for the intended audience. Review the design and development process against appropriate evaluation criteria; reflect on the development process and methods and identify areas for improvement; document identified improvements for future projects

Overview of Assessment
During the program you will complete assessment tasks which are listed, in detail, at the beginning of the course. These tasks may include :
- Workplace based projects
- Online assessment (eg discussion forum, blog, wiki, quiz)
- Professional conversation
- Third-party reports

Assessment Tasks
To demonstrate competency in this course you will need to complete all of the following tasks to a satisfactory standard.
You will receive written feedback on all assessment tasks.
Task 1: Design and develop a print-based learning resource (minimum of 2 options)
Research, design and develop a print based resource that reflects client needs and the contexts of application with documented evidence of:
- consultation, research and findings
- a completed design options for the resource
Task 2: Design and develop second print-based learning resource and trial and review it
Research, design and develop a print based resource that reflects client needs and the contexts of application with documented evidence of:
- consultation, research and findings
- a completed design options for the resource
Complete the development of the resource with documented evidence of:
- a review and trial of the resource, including user feedback and how this impacted on the development of the resource
- the final print based resource, either complete or in part or sample
- the candidate’s specific role in the development process.
Task 3: Design and develop learning resources - Knowledge Questions
For this assessment you will answer five questions which relate to instructional design, learning theories, the Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF) and issues that are to be considered when designing learning resources for adult learners.

- Task 1 and 3 need to be submitted by midnight Monday July 29 2019
- Task 2 needs to be submitted by midnight Friday August 16 2019
It is a requirement of the Diploma of Training Design and Development (TAE50216) program, that all assessment projects are to be submitted electronically in Canvas. You are asked to submit each assessment project as a single Word or PDF file, to which you must include a signed RMIT Cover Sheet; multiple project files will not be accepted.
*Please add your name and student number into the footer of your project document. *Please note, that no ‘Hard Copy’ portfolios will be accepted.
