Course Description

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to research information about compliance and ethical practice responsibilities, and then develop and monitor policies and procedures to meet those responsibilities.

This unit applies to people working in roles with managerial responsibility for legal and ethical compliance in small to medium sized organisations. There may or may not be a team of workers involved.

Welcome to Manage Legal and Ethical Compliance!

Course description

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to research information about compliance and ethical practice responsibilities, and then develop and monitor policies and procedures to meet those responsibilities in the context of the job role and a Professional Health Care Practice.

Students will be taught how to gather information and contextualise their understanding of the importance of good Legal and Ethical application into a Professional Health Care setting.

How this course runs

This unit is run over eight (8) weeks, via a combination of on-campus face to face teaching and learning, online completion of RMIT Micro-credentials prior to class, class discussions related to legal and ethical considerations and case studies, and group based assessment including research via library and internet. 

RMIT has various study spaces and computers (booking required Links to an external site.) available to students. Building 51, level 2 has open drop-in cubicles available on a first in scenario. RMIT free WiFi data and connection is also available when on site.  

Canvas Learning Management System (LMS) Links to an external site.is the online system for all course and unit and assessment communication. This is also the space where assessments are to be uploaded to. 

Assessments

Performance Assessments will provide evidence of the ability to complete and manage tasks and manage contingencies 

  • determined the scope of legal and ethical compliance requirements and responsibilities, and developed policies and procedures for at least 1 workplace or business
  • developed a strategic response to at least 3 different situations where legal or ethical requirements have been breached

Knowledge Evidence Assessments will demonstrate essential knowledge required to effectively do the task, manage the task and manage contingencies in the context of the identified work role.

  • legal responsibilities and liabilities of managers and others in different types of organisation
  • legal and ethical frameworks (international, national state/territory, local), how these apply in the workplace, and the responsibilities of managers in the development and monitoring of policies and procedures
  • specific requirements in the area of work
  • work role boundaries – responsibilities and limitations of different people
  • work health and safety
  • sources of information and advice on compliance
  • functions and operating procedures of regulatory authorities of particular relevance to the health and community service sectors

You may be eligible to resubmit your assessments.

Resubmissions are not automatic and will only be approved at the discretion of the Program Coordinator, after consultation with the teacher.

All students will be contacted by their course coordinator in regards to  resubmission completion dates.

 

SUBMISSION OF ASSESSMENT TASKS

All Assessment tasks should be performed or submitted by their due dates.

You must keep a copy of all submitted assessments including electronic copies. It is expected that any work presented for assessment in this course will be your own. RMIT University has a strict policy on academic integrity and plagiarism. Plagiarism is the presentation of the work, idea or creation of another person as though it is your own. It is a form of cheating and is a very serious academic offence that may lead to expulsion from the University.  EXTENSIONS OF TIME FOR SUBMISSION OF ASSESSABLE WORK
