Course Description
This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required to analyse client health information and then to plan appropriate health services within scope of own role. It requires an in-depth knowledge of anatomy and physiology. This unit applies to individuals who plan and provide services with some level of autonomy. Some disciplines will require a state/territory regulatory determination regarding delegation and supervision.

Details of Learning Activities
During your time in clinic you will be providing the following to all clients who attend the clinic:
Manual treatment : this includes all forms of therapy whereby the soft tissues of the client’s body are treated with direct application of the massage therapist’s hands, elbows and forearms, manual lymphatic drainage (MLD), stretching, TENS, mobilisation etc.
(Whilst there may be many various forms of manual treatment, it is imperative to note that the forms of manual therapy to be used in the RMIT Remedial Massage Clinic shall be limited to that taught within the Diploma of Remedial Massage Therapy course, at RMIT University.)
A combination of activities will support student’s learning in this course, such as:
• Face-to-face &/or online lectures to cover theoretical and practical concepts for each topic in the course
• Students will learn to apply their skills and knowledge to work integrated learning (WIL) in the student & clinical practice environment, during simulations and classroom based learning
• Work experience &/or placements observation of performance in the workplace will be a valuable part of your learning experience
• Tutorial activities (individually and in teams) to discuss, debate, critique and consolidate your ideas and extend your understanding around key concepts within specific topics
• Online discussions and activities to support and collaborate with other students in your course and debate and discuss ideas
• Utilise and develop critical research and cognitive skills to find credible sources of health information
• Self-directed study time (eg. readings or activities around theory) to enhance and strengthen your knowledge and understanding of theoretical concepts
• To further facilitate learning students are strongly encouraged to use a range of communication tools between themselves and their course instructor as well as between themselves and fellow students by using the online learning platform
• It is strongly recommended that students partner up with fellow students in order to practice assessment, treatment and palpation techniques
Teaching Schedule
This Clinic runs over Semester 1 2019 and finishes at the end of semester 2 2019.
Clinic runs for 3 hours -during those 3 hours you will see 2 clients within the 3 hour clinic during Semester 1 2019. During Semester 1 2019 you will see 3 clients during the 3 hour clinic session.
During clinic you are expected to treat and assess various clients of all ages and genders. If you are not treating you will be required to be the clinic manager or assist the manager in all aspects of running the clinic.
WIL placements are timetabled throughout the 2 semesters. You will be given a WIL placement timetable that will compliment you RMIT clinic placement when WIL placements are finalised and confirmed.

- Assessment Task 1: Appendix 1: Log of Successful Completion of a Clinic Shift (Refer to page 31 of the clinic manual for more information)
- Assessment Task 2: Appendix 2: Log of Client Consultations (Refer to page 35 for more information)
- Assessment Task 3: Appendix 3: Log of Review Client Consultations (Refer to page 31 for more information) This assessment task is due on the last day of your 3rd semester within the Diploma of Remedial massage, where you will need to submit the above three assessment tasks and have completed all three assessments to a satisfactory standard)
You must be punctual and attend all of you clinic shifts.
