Course Description

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to develop, implement and monitor infection prevention and control systems and procedures in work contexts where health and personal care services are provided. This unit applies to people working in roles with managerial responsibilities for infection prevention and control in small to medium sized organisations. There may or may not be a team of workers involved.

Details of Learning Activities

This course will be delivered via online and face to face sessions. Students are expected to read the class slides prior to the webinar this then will allow for any questions to be addressed and an online forum to be developed. 


• Students will learn to apply their skills and knowledge to work integrated learning (WIL) in the

student & clinical practice environment, during simulations and classroom based learning

• Work experience &/or placements observation of performance in the workplace will be a

valuable part of your learning experience

• Tutorial activities (individually and in teams) to discuss, debate, critique and consolidate your

ideas and extend your understanding around key concepts within specific topics

• Online discussions and activities to support and collaborate with other students in your course

and debate and discuss ideas

• Utilise and develop critical research and cognitive skills to find credible sources of health

information

• Self-directed study time (eg. readings or activities around theory) to enhance and strengthen

your knowledge and understanding of theoretical concepts

• To further facilitate learning students are strongly encouraged to use a range of communication

tools between themselves and their course instructor as well as between themselves and fellow

students by using the online learning platform

Assessment 1: Clinic observation checklist - refer to Canvas for further details 

All skills in this checklist must be completed under supervision during the student’s time in the student clinic.  They must receive a result of Satisfactory (S) for each of these skills by the due date set for this task. The student must be observed by an assessor in completing each of the steps as set out in the observation checklist. The student will also be asked several questions by their assessor as they complete the task to help assess their knowledge and how they can apply it to work relevant situations.


Assessment 2: Portfolio assignment - refer to Canvas for further details 

The student will be assessed on their ability to demonstrate an understanding of infection control prevention and the management of work health and safety.

Students are to complete all the parts of the project and the questions in Section B of this assessment.

  • Evaluating and maintaining WHS and infection control

Important information regarding Assessment Tasks:

 

Resubmissions are not automatic and will only be approved at the discretion of the Program Coordinator, after consultation with the teacher and each individual assessment may only be resubmitted once. 

All students will be contacted with 7 days by their course coordinator in regards to  resubmission completion dates.

   

Please note an opportunity to repeat clinical placement is not guaranteed and will be at the discretion of the Clinical Coordinator/Program Manager.

 

EXTENSION OR SPECIAL CONSIDERATION


If due to illness or other unforeseen circumstance, you are unable to attend on the due date of an assessment (e.g. test, examination, oral, etc.) OR you do attend, but your performance has been affected, you may submit an APPLICATION FOR SPECIAL CONSIDERATION within 5 working days of the due date. If Special Consideration is granted, you will be given the opportunity to complete/repeat the assessment task at a later date. If due to illness or other unforeseen circumstance, you are unable to submit by the due date (e.g. assignment, report, project etc.):
