Course Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to adapt remedial massage assessment and treatment strategies to meet the needs of clients of different genders and at different stages of life. It also includes the requirement to be able to identify and respond to other specific needs with which the practitioner may be unfamiliar.
This unit applies to remedial massage therapists.
The skills in this unit must be applied in accordance with Commonwealth and State/Territory legislation, Australian/New Zealand standards and industry codes of practice.

Details of Learning Activities
Students will be required to research pathology's that can be treated. They will be given a different research option for each demographic area give every 4th week. They will present to the class what they have researched and why massage treatment is viable and encouraged to aid with recovery or general wellbeing.
Students will then be given case studies in relation to each population demography being researched. They will perform an assessment ,massage treatment and re-assessment and will give guidance as to what the treatment plan will be , referrals to any other professionals that also may be able to assist.

Assessment Tasks
Assessment 1 observation skills checklist - Students will be given case studies in relation to a certain population demographic. They will then assess, treat and reassess taking into consideration the pathology's and problems being presented. Students will then upload their client history and initial forms to Canvas.

Assessment 2 -Negotiated Assessment :specific research and treatment options- Students will chose a population demography. The will research a pathology affecting that demography . The research will be presented as a power point presentation in class and a treatment plan will be negotiated and demonstrated to assessors.

Assessment 3- Client Clinic Checklist -Students will treat record 5 client treatments form their WIL clinic placement. These 5 clients will have presented with an issue that students feel the need to research more and to ask them back for a follow up to continue treatment. Students will de identify the client history and client assessment sheets for evidence of their treatment

Important information regarding Assessment Tasks:
Resubmissions are not automatic and will only be approved at the discretion of the Program Coordinator, after consultation with the teacher and each individual assessment may only be resubmitted once.
All students will be contacted with 7 days by their course coordinator in regards to resubmission completion dates.
Please note an opportunity to repeat clinical placement is not guaranteed and will be at the discretion of the Clinical Coordinator/Program Manager.
EXTENSION OR SPECIAL CONSIDERATION
If due to illness or other unforeseen circumstance, you are unable to attend on the due date of an assessment (e.g. test, examination, oral, etc.) OR you do attend, but your performance has been affected, you may submit an APPLICATION FOR SPECIAL CONSIDERATION within 5 working days of the due date. If Special Consideration is granted, you will be given the opportunity to complete/repeat the assessment task at a later date. For advice on this application please visit www.rmit.edu.au/students/specialconsideration or speak to your Program Coordinator.
If due to illness or other unforeseen circumstance, you are unable to submit by the due date (e.g. assignment, report, project etc.):
you may submit an APPLICATION FOR EXTENSION OF TIME FOR SUBMISSION OF ASSESSABLE WORK for an extension of time of up to seven (7) calendar days or less. This must be lodged with the Program Coordinator 1 working day before the original due date. If granted, you will have the opportunity to submit up to 7 days later than the original due date.
