Course Description

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to adapt remedial massage assessment and treatment strategies to meet the needs of clients of different genders and at different stages of life. It also includes the requirement to be able to identify and respond to other specific needs with which the practitioner may be unfamiliar.

This unit applies to remedial massage therapists.

The skills in this unit must be applied in accordance with Commonwealth and State/Territory legislation, Australian/New Zealand standards and industry codes of practice.

Details of Learning Activities

Students will be required to research pathologies that can be treated. They will be given a different research option for each demographic area throughout the course. They will present to the class what they have researched and why massage treatment is viable and encouraged to aid with recovery or general well being.

Students will then be given case studies in relation to each population demography being researched. They will perform an assessment ,massage treatment and  re-assessment and will give guidance as to what the treatment plan will be , referrals to any other professionals that also may be able to assist.

Task 1 - Case studies- Students are to read the case studies and answer each question in relation to the information provided. Due : Refer to Canvas

Task 2 - Practical observation - Students to treat a case study within a Sim clinic - Due :refer to canvas

Task 3-Clinic treatment adaptations - Students are to chose clients within clinic who present with pathological problem that relates to this course and record the exact treatment and adaptations made. Due:refer to canvas
