Course Description

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to monitor and evaluate remedial massage treatments, both from an individual client and whole of practice perspective.

Details of Learning Activities

The Remedial Massage clinic will be delivered through face-to-face clinical sessions which you are required to attend on a weekly basis.

Within clinic you will have the opportunity to utilize all your learnt skills within the Diploma of Remedial Massage.

The practical application of all skills will lead to a strong understanding of how to work with a range of clients, in an effective manner in order to stabilize conditions  allowing clients to live a better quality of life.  Refining practical skills within a clinical environment at RMIT allows for professional growth with the very exciting and emerging Diploma of Remedial Massage.

  • common environmental emergencies (diving, altitude, temperature)
  • overdose and poisoning
  • surgical insult
  • trauma (penetrating, blunt)

Remedial Clinic 3-hour blocks

Treatment of 2 Clients

  • 2 Clients back to back booked via the online booking system.
  • Clinic management is required at times,
  • Hour 3 – feedback from Clinic Supervisor
  • Review of clients and what they presented.
  •  Review of testing, client history, written documentation.       Requirements for next clinic

Assessment Task 1 (1.1-1.2)- Knowledge Assessments 

These assessments you are to complete in your own time.

Assessment Task 1.1 - Clinic Entrance Knowledge 

For this assessment you are asked to answer questions which relate to the clinic policies, procedures and knowledge that you will/may come across in your student clinic time at RMIT. You are required to complete this task in the first two weeks of commencing. 

 Assessment Task 1.2 - Knowledge Questions

For this assessment you are asked to answer questions which relate to your knowledge of analysing and responding to client health information. 


Assessment Task 2 (2.1-2.2)- Practical Assessment  

Assessment Task 2.1 - Log of Review clients

This practical assessment will allow you to demonstrate your ability to monitor and evaluate remedial massage treatments. You must treat a minimum of 5 different clients with at least 3 treatments per client (initial, 2nd 3 rd) You MUST: - Seek client feedback about previous treatment impacts - Evaluate the effectiveness and impacts from previous treatment to clients physical, mental, spiritual and emotional wellbeing - Discuss any adverse reactions or any other relevant post treatment information - Discuss and review prescribed corrective exercises, stretches, and ergonomics - Added necessary modifications post treatment - Accurately documented progress or regress in client file - Seek additional client feedback post treatment 

Assessment Task 2.2 - Client conditions 

This practical assessment will allow you to demonstrate your ability to analyse and respond to various client health conditions. You must treat a minimum of 6 different clients presenting with different conditions. You will assess client health status based on: • observations • physical assessments • interpretation of client tests 

 

Assessment Task 3 - Personal reflection 

This personal reflection task will allow you to demonstrate your ability to: - Identify areas of own practice for further research or development to support client outcomes - Seek professional development opportunities to enhance your practice Assessment Instructions When reflecting on your treatments, you MUST: - With reference to 3 clients, explain the adjustments/variations you made throughout their treatment plan, and why the adjustments were made? - Identify 3 areas of your own practice you need further development in - Research professional development opportunities for all 3. - Identify 3 barriers to your client progress. How did you overcome these barriers? - Explain the research you conducted in order to enhance and support client outcomes - What sources of and evidence did you base your research on?
