Course Description
This course describes the skills and knowledge required to establish the information need, gather information and critically analyse the information for relevance to own work.
This course applies to health and community service workers who need to research existing information to support and improve their work practice. It does not cover primary research.
This course includes a Work Integrated Learning experience in which your knowledge and skills will be applied and assessed in a real or simulated workplace context and where feedback from industry and/or community is integral to your experience.

Overview of Assessment
Assessment will incorporate a variety of methods including written, oral, practical tasks and activities.
You will be asked to personally demonstrate to your teacher/assessor the practical skills gained during this course to the relevant industry standards. Assessment activities will occur throughout this course and feedback will be provided at regular intervals
Assessment Tasks
You must gain a satisfactory in all assessment tasks to be deemed satisfactory for this course.
Assessment task 1 Written/Practical: This assessment has 2 parts
Part 1 – Practical/ Knowledge assessment
You will be required to complete Observational Audit, presentation as a group and a research poster:
You are required to conduct an audit, collate the results, complete an academic style Poster and then present your research.
Part 2 - Written assessment
For this task you will be required to complete a written assessment based on short answer questions.
Assessment Task 2 Knowledge assessment:
You will be required to complete research paper on a researched nursing topic and present that in an essay format.

Skills must have been demonstrated in the workplace or in a simulated environment that reflects workplace conditions. The following conditions must be met for this unit: |
Assessment tasks 1&2 allows students to demonstrate skills in a simulated environment within the RMIT nursing labs that reflects typical workplace conditions and contingencies. |

Students require access to suitable facilities, equipment, and resources, including current research, evidence-based studies and industry intelligence through the library facilities and in class education |
Assessors must satisfy the Standards for Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) 2015/AQTF mandatory competency requirements for assessors.

Important information regarding Assessment Tasks:
You are permitted to have a maximum of 2 resubmissions for this course, however each individual assessment may only be resubmitted once. Resubmissions are not automatic and will only be approved at the discretion of the program coordinator after consultation with the teacher.
All resubmissions must be completed and submitted no more than 7 days after your work has been assessed.Other Information
