Course Description

This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to develop and evaluate strategies for transport and logistics enterprises in accordance with relevant Australian and international regulatory requirements, standards, codes of practice and workplace procedures.

It includes analysing the enterprise’s internal and external operating environment, developing strategies to maximise enterprise outcomes, implementing and evaluating strategies, and responding to changes within the transport and logistics environment.

Work is under general guidance on progress and outcomes. It requires discretion and judgement for self and others in planning and using resources, services and processes to achieve required outcomes.

The unit generally applies to those with responsibility for resource coordination and allocation, who lead individuals or teams.

This course is structured to provide students with the optimum learning experience in order to demonstrate the skills and knowledge required to develop and evaluate strategies for transport and logistics enterprises in accordance with relevant Australian and international regulatory requirements, standards, codes of practice and workplace procedures.

A range of learning activities are planned for this course including self-paced and collaborative classroom based activities.

The collaborative classroom based activities will include group discussion, group problem solving activities and opportunities to practice your skills in a simulated/real workplace environment.

Overview of Assessment

Assessment Methods

Assessment methods have been designed to measure achievement of the requirements in a flexible manner over a range of assessment tasks, for example:

  • direct questioning combined with review of portfolios of evidence and third party workplace reports of on-the-job performance by the candidate
  • review of final printed documents
  • demonstration of techniques
  • observation of presentations
  • oral or written questioning to assess knowledge of software applications

You are advised that you are likely to be asked to personally demonstrate your assessment work to your teacher to ensure that the relevant competency standards are being met.

Performance  Evidence

You will be required to provide evidence of the following skills:

  • applying relevant legislation and workplace procedures
  • communicating effectively with others when developing and evaluating strategies for an enterprise
  • completing documentation related to developing and evaluating strategies for an enterprise
  • implementing contingency plans

  • resource availability including the competencies of individuals in the team/group

Assessment Task 1 – Research Sector Profile on Charity Allocated to You
Date and time due: Week 5 (9 Aug 23:59)

Purpose: 
This assessment quiz with essay type questions that are designed for you to detail and prove your capability to undertake research on a Charity that you were allocated. The quiz enables you to display your competence in a structured but detailed and targeted way.

Assessment Task 2 – Map out, Measure & Evaluate a Current Logistics Operations
Date and time due: Week 7 (13 September 23:59)
Purpose:
This assessment quiz with essay type questions that are designed for you to map the process and flow of our focus activity (operating stats etc). Where it fits into overall process, who are the functions/activities 'internal customers' and 'internal suppliers'.

Assessment Task 3 –Business Report : Developing and Implementing a Logistics or Transport Strategy - Evaluation and Measuring Success
Date and time due: Week 15 (24 Oct 23:59)
Purpose:
The purpose of this assessment task is to allow you to:

·         Outline your understanding of a logistics flow and operation

·         Explain strategies and goals in the context of an organisation

·         Evaluate strategies and describe how to approach their development and implementation

·         Detail key performance indicators and their application

·         Create Project and Communication Plans that complement Change programs

·         Identify Workplace Health and Safety risks and plans to minimise them

·         Demonstrate their knowledge of external factors i.e. regulation and legislation that applies to their charity and sector

Submission Requirements 

You should: 

  • Ensure that you submit assessments on or before the due date. 
  • Always retain a copy of your assessment tasks. (hard copy and soft copy)
  • When you submit work for assessment at RMIT University you need to use the Assessment task document that includes a declaration and statement of authorship.
  • Each page of your assessment should include a footer with your name, student number, the title of the assessment, unit code and title and page numbers.

Late Submission Procedures

You are required to submit assessment items and/or ensure performance based assessment is completed by the due dates.

 If you are prevented from submitting an assessment item on time, by circumstances outside your control, you may apply in advance to your teacher for an extension to the due date of up to seven calendar days.

Re-submissions (VE Programs):

If you are found to be unsuccessful (Not satisfactory/Unsatisfactory) in a Course Assessment Task you will be allowed one re-submission.  Your teacher will provide feedback regarding what you need to do to improve and will set a new deadline for the re-submission. 

 If you are still not meeting the assessment requirements you must apply to your Program Manager in writing outlining the steps you will take to demonstrate competence in your course. Your submission will be considered by the Program Team and you will be advised of the outcome as soon as possible.
