Course Description

This course describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to use computer applications employing advanced features. It involves manipulating data and accessing support resources to solve routine problems.

On successful completion of this subjects students will attain the skills use advanced computer applications for the use of a variety of commercial uses.


Details of Learning Activities

This course is structured to provide students with the optimum learning experience. Students will participate in a combination of group and individual learning activities. These activities will be provided through a combination of face to face teacher/student delivery plus classroom work time. Additional learning activities will also be provided to students to complete outside of timetabled class time.


Teaching Schedule

This course is co-delivered and co-assessed with Manage the PR Publication Process - MKTG 6048C, Use Digital Media for Public Relations - MKTG 7882 and Use Development Software and IT Tools to Build a Basic Website - COSC 7356C.

This course is delivered in five 3-hour work shops. All content is available online.

Overview of Assessment

In order to achieve competency in this unit, you must provide:

Required skills

  • literacy skills to interpret technical documentation, equipment manuals and specifications
  • planning and organisational skills to prioritise and monitor own work
  • problem-solving skills to solve operational problems as they arise
  • research skills to source support resources to solve routine problems
  • safety awareness skills to work systematically with required attention to detail without injury to self or others, or damage to goods or equipment
  • technical skills to:
  • apply technical support for system problems
  • operate software applications
  • use applications features
  • use online help.

 

Required knowledge 

  • basic knowledge of operating systems software and system tools
  • vendor product directions in computer applications
  • vendor applications and their features.

Assessment Conditions

Critical aspects for assessment and evidence required to demonstrate competency in this unit 

Evidence of the ability to:

  • use at least three computer applications employing advanced features and import and export capacities for efficiency and productivity purposes
  • solve routine problems using support resources.

You are advised that you are likely to be asked to personally demonstrate your assessment work to your teacher to ensure that the relevant competency standards are being met.

Assessment Tasks

There are 4 assessment tasks to complete and submit and 3 Worksheets to upload in class.

The assessments are for a project for a real life client and are all interrelated. This means that each assessment is connected to the others.

The Worksheets will be completed during the workshops.

Assessment Task 1

Requirements Report for Website (PR Research brief) with target audience segmentation - Individual

You will develop a requirements report and target audience segmentation based on information acquired from your client.

Assessment Task 2

Planning Document - Individual
This document is including all your planning documentation for assessment 3. You will include drafts, target audience considerations, word lists and planning outlines for press releases (2), an EDM on MailChimp, blog posts (3) and your research for relevant legislation

Assessment Task 3

Portfolio of Work - Individual

This document includes all your publication work, as well as a media list and a small style guide:

  • 1 EDM on MailChimp
  • 2 Press Releases
  • 3 Blog Posts
  • Media List in Google Sheets
  • Small Style Guide

Assessment Task 4

Develop and Test Website - Individual/Group (Testing)
5 pages including a blog with 3 posts with engaging copy.

Submission Requirements   You should:

  • Ensure that you submit assessments on or before the due date.
