Course Description
The course describes the skills and knowledge required to identify Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander cultural safety issues in the workplace, model cultural safety in own work practice, and develop strategies to enhance cultural safety.
This course applies to people working in a broad range of roles including those involved in direct client service, program planning, development and evaluation contexts.
This course includes a Work Integrated Learning experience in which your knowledge and skills will be applied and assessed in a real or simulated workplace context and where feedback from industry and/or community is integral to your experience.

Overview of Assessment
You must show evidence of the ability to complete tasks outlined in elements and performance criteria of this unit, manage tasks and manage contingencies in the context of the job role. There must be evidence that you have:
- promoted Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander cultural safety in the context of at least 1 workplace
- researched culture and history, the impact of European settlement, loss of land and culture and the importance of law and kinship
- evaluated ways to improve communication with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples who may be clients or colleagues.
To be deemed competent you must demonstrate an understanding of all aspects required of the competency.
Regular attendance is necessary.
Assessment methods have been designed to measure your achievement of each competency in a flexible manner over multiple tasks and consist of theory and practical based tasks.
Assessment Tasks
CHCDIV002 AT1 Knowledge Assessment
- Knowledge based assessment involves questions to demonstrate knowledge of all aspects of providing a culturally safe work environment.
- Feedback will be provided on Canvas
CHCDIV002 AT2 Practical Assessment
- This assessment task allows you to demonstrate skills and knowledge in relation to promoting Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander cultural safety
CHCDIV002: AT3 Third Party Report
- This assessment task allows your workplace supervisor to observe you in your workplace to demonstrate your skills and knowledge address cultural safety issues in the workplace, model cultural safety in own work practice, and develop strategies to enhance cultural safety.
Resubmissions
You will be given two (2) attempts for each assessment to demonstrate the required skills. If a student does not submit an assessment on the first date provided however submits on the resubmission date this submission will be the only attempt allowed.
A third (3rd) attempt can only be offered after discussions between teacher and the Program Coordinator and is not automatic.
A 3rd attempt consideration will take into account class attendance (80-100% requirement), interaction within class and communication with the class teacher.
Results that apply to courses that are delivered and assessed in accordance with competency-based assessment are:
