Course Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to provide a first aid response to a casualty. The unit applies to all workers who may be required to provide a first aid response in a range of situations, including community and workplace settings.
Specific licensing /regulatory requirements relating to this competency, including requirements for refresher training should be obtained from the relevant national/state/territory Work Health and Safety Regulatory Authorities.

Teaching Schedule
This unit will be delivered and assessed in Week 1 of Block 3.
The online quiz component will be assessed within 2 weeks after completion of the practical activities.

To be deemed competent you must demonstrate an understanding of all aspects required of the competency. Assessment methods have been designed to measure your achievement of each competency in a flexible manner over multiple tasks.
Assessment Tasks
To demonstrate competency in this course, students will need to complete all the following pieces of assessment to a satisfactory standard.
Assessment 1 Practical Assessment CPR Adult
Students will attempt the practical assessments under supervision of the assessor and they will be graded with either a CA (Competent) or NYC (Not Yet Competent) according to the assessment guidelines and criteria outlined in the HLTAID003 Assessment Overview. In order to achieve a Competent result, student must successfully complete all listed requirements of assessment criteria. Students will receive verbal feedback on this assessment on the day of the assessment.
Assessment 2 Practical Assessment CPR Infant
Students will attempt the practical assessments under supervision of the assessor and they will be graded with either a CA (Competent) or NYC (Not Yet Competent) according to the assessment guidelines and criteria outlined in the HLTAID003 Assessment Overview. In order to achieve a Competent result, student must successfully complete all listed requirements of assessment criteria. Students will receive verbal feedback on this assessment on the day of the assessment.
Assessment 3 Practical Assessment Emergency Procedures
This assessment covers the following procedures:
- Bandaging and slings
- Broncholidator and Spacer
- Autoinjectors
Students will attempt the practical assessments under supervision of the assessor and they will be graded with either a CA (Competent) or NYC (Not Yet Competent) according to the assessment guidelines and criteria outlined in the HLTAID003 Assessment Overview. In order to achieve a Competent result, student must successfully complete all listed requirements of assessment criteria. Students will receive verbal feedback on this assessment on the day of the assessment.
Assessment 4, 5 & 6 Online Quizzes
This is conducted after classes in Block 3 and accessed via Canvas. Students have three attempts to complete the three online quizzes and feedback is provided for the online quizzes. A score of 100% is required to achieve a CA (Competent) mark for these assessments.
