Course Description
This course covers the skills and knowledge required to use a sewing machine to align and sew pattern pieces and sew components. In this course you will experiment with different ways of creating or altering fashion product to meet a range of different styling scenarios.

Overview of Assessment
Assessment is ongoing throughout the course and will include a range of practical and theory components. Full assessment briefs will be provided and can be found on Canvas.
This is a Vocational Education and Training qualification and is assessed for Competency. To be assessed as Competent means you have consistently demonstrated the required knowledge and skills at a standard required in the workplace. To be assessed as Competent in this course, you will need to complete each assessment task to a satisfactory standard. You will receive feedback from the teacher at the conclusion of each assessment task.

Assessment Tasks
Assessment 1 - Knowledge Task: you will be asked to answer questions relating to your understanding of characteristics of fabric and materials, sewing equipment, best practice and safety requirements when operating a sewing machine. Due Week 3.
Assessment 2 - Technical Folder: In this assessment, you will create a technical folder of sewing machine samples. These samples are to be made using pattern pieces supplied by your teacher to sew a range of examples of sewing components and operations. Due Week 11.
Assessment 3 - Altered Fashion: This assessment allows you to demonstrate your knowledge and competence in determining job requirements, safely undertaking sewing processes and correct operations including sewing machine set-ups, and in reviewing sewing and production processes to check for quality and rectify any faults. Due Week 15.
