2.1 Determine Performance Solutions to meet the Performance Requirements. 2.2 Discuss options with relevant persons to necessitate design or construction change. 2.3 Apply Deem-to-Satisfy (DTS) solution with supporting evidence to comply with the Performance Requirements. 2.4 Consider Performance Solutions and supporting evidence to achieve compliance with Performance Requirements. 2.5 Document performance-based solutions in accordance with organisational quality procedures and processes. 2.6 Complete and compile relevant documentation and evidence that complies with NCC Performance Requirements.

Element:

3. Apply fire protection requirements

Performance Criteria:

3.1 Identify passive and active fire control elements required by relevant legislation. 3.2 Determine level of fire resistance required for the construction of buildings up to three storeys. 3.3 Apply NCC requirements with respect to passive and active fire protection to buildings up to three storeys. 3.4 Check passive and active fire protection requirements are applied during and on completion of works.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this course you will have developed and applied the skills and knowledge required to demonstrate competency in the above elements.

Details of Learning Activities

You will learn the following:

1. Classify buildings

2. Determine construction compliance solutions within the NCC.

3. Apply fire protection requirements.

The total number of scheduled hours of teaching, learning and assessment involved in this course includes all planned activities (face to face classes, lectures, workshops and seminars; online learning and other forms of structured teaching and learning). It also covers the amount of effort necessary to undertake, evaluate and complete all assessment requirements, observation of work performance, discussions with supervisors and others providing third party evidence and one on one and group assessment sessions with students.

Assessment conditions

Describe how assessments meet the assessment conditions

Assessment can be undertaken in the workplace or in a simulated workplace environment.

A simulated environment is one that realistically replicates workplace conditions, materials and equipment, interactions with others and workplace irregularities, and which meets industry standards for safety and environmental practices.

Assessment is undertaken in a simulated workplace environment. Students are provided with construction plans, specifications and photographs throughout the construction process.

Students are able to interact with others in a simulated environment led by trainer facilitation.

Candidates must have access to:

  • current and relevant government building and construction Acts and regulations
  • project plans and specifications
  • building codes, standards and manufacturer’s products and materials specifications
  • the NCC
  • technology, applications and software to access and source information.

Students have access to the following resources:

  • relevant government building and construction regulations
  • current building and construction codes and standards
  • NCC Volume 1
  • construction drawings, site plans and specifications and photographs for various construction projects
  • A simulated workplace environment including organisational policies and procedures
  • Canvas, MS Word, MS Excel, Internet

Other Information

Attendance Requirement - 85% for all students

Resubmission Policy: To pass this course, students must achieve a Satisfactory (S) result for all their Assessments (and parts of those assessments).

Students who do not achive a Satisfactory (S) result for their entire original submission for an Assessment will be provided with 1 (one) more submission opportunity (e.g. the resubmission) with a specific due date by their assessor. Students must achive a Satisfactory (S) result on their resubmission for that Assessment, by the due date given to them by their Assessor.

Students who fail to submit their assessment by the due date will be issued a DNS (Did Not Submit) result which will not be over turned. A DNS result can be overturned by an approved Extension of Time or approved Special Consideration.
